It’s a battle between giants when a stock McLaren 720S takes on a slightly tuned Dodge Demon at the drag strip.

We’ve seen this matchup before and the Dodge Demon usually comes away worse for wear. The Demon requires everything to be just perfect in order for it to actually post a quarter-mile time below 10 seconds, while the McLaren’s consistent speed is something to behold.

Then again, the McLaren costs roughly 4 times as much as the Demon, so you get what you pay for.

By the numbers, the McLaren gets a slight advantage when it comes to power-to-weight. Under the hood is a 4.0-L twin-turbo V8 producing 710 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque, punching it from zero to sixty in just 2.7 seconds. Top speed is 212 mph thanks to an absolutely featherweight body and chassis that brings total dry weight to just 3,180 lbs.

The Demon, on the other hand, is a beast of a car at 4,280 lbs. It has the power advantage thanks to a 6.2-L supercharged HEMI V8 producing 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque (with the right fuel, of course), and zero to sixty is advertised at just 2.3 seconds, but real life usually puts it around the same as the McLaren at 2.7 seconds.

We see two giants of YouTube battle it out with DragTimes in his McLaren and Demonology using a loaner Demon which has been modified to be as light as possible. Rear seats, front passenger seat, and all extraneous equipment is removed to give the Demon a crash diet that cuts probably a hundred odd pounds. Will it be enough to beat the mighty McLaren?

In a word, no.

The Demon is a great car and it even managed to take a few races from the McLaren (usually due to a mechanical failure on the McLaren’s part), but whenever both cars got a decent start, the McLaren always won. Even on the rolling races, where the Demon’s greater power should come into play, the McLaren made victory look easy.

That said, Demonology wasn’t using his custom ride, Soul Eater, and we’ve seen that Demon post some truly terrifying numbers. We’ll have to see how the McLaren compares to a truly modified Demon. Till then, enjoy the smoking tires and burnt rubber.
