Most television viewers are familiar with the character Mr. Bean, from the British comedy sitcom which aired between January 1990 and December 1995. Even though the clumsy Mr. Bean rarely spoke, or mumbled briefly if he did, the character was hugely popular worldwide.

The man behind Mr. Bean is actor Rowan Atkinson, whose fortune and fame grew from creating and portraying the Mr. Bean character. Atkinson’s celebrity status continued to grow as he starred as other characters such as secret-agent Johnny English. The income from being a famous celebrity allowed Atkinson the opportunity to also enjoy another hobby of his, collecting cars.

Over the years Atkinson has had a variety of cars in his garage. Of course, this has included numerous luxury cars. But he has also owned everything from classics to sports cars, even supercars. Read below to see what supercars the comical Mr. Bean has had in his stable of cars…

Rowan Atkinson seems to have a love for speed. In 1997 Atkinson purchased a brand new purple McLaren F1, reportedly for $830,000. The 6.1L V12 engine packs a punch with 627hp and could reach speeds of 240mph.

This car is definitely a collectors dream as a grand total of 106 were produced, with 64 of those being road-legal.

After selling his McLaren F1, Atkinson couldn’t have a supercar missing from his car collection. So he simply filled the void with a Mercedes Benz SLS AMG. A much “calmer” supercar being a V8 with 583hp.

Considering the huge price difference between the sale of his McLaren and the price of the Mercedes AMG, Atkinson had plenty left to purchase a few more supercars for his garage.

Atkinson’s taste for rare cars carried on to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato he purchased in 1998. His Zagato carried chassis number 20013 and was the first right-hand-drive produced. Only 89 total units were produced during the Zagato’s four-year production run.

Atkinson had his car modified to be capable of competing in the Aston Martin Owners Club Series. The rebuild cost was reportedly around $377,000 over and above the price of the car itself.

Atkinson’s love for speed and cars brought him to purchase this beautiful supercar… as one of his “everyday” cars. The V6 engine in his NSX has plenty of power to keep things interesting on Atkinson’s everyday errand runs. And hopefully not too much to face the same fate as his McLaren.

The 1951 Aston Martin DB2 had a lengthy racing career before it was purchased by Rowan Atkinson in 1997. Atkinson had it race-prepped and took it back to the track the following year. He didn’t hang onto this car for very long. After a few seasons of racing, the Aston Martin DB2 was sold to its next owner.

The McLaren F1 and Atkinson had a few “bumps” over the years… two to be exact. In 1999, Atkinson drove the supercar in the back of a Rover damaging the front end.

Then 2011 saw a horrific crash when Atkinson lost control of the McLaren F1. They crashed into a tree and street sign, and the car started to burn. Atkinson was slightly injured with a fractured shoulder blade, but the supercar did not fare so well. It took almost two years and two million dollars in repairs to get the McLaren F1 back on the street.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a sleek, flashy supercar that turns heads wherever it goes. The two-seater has gull-wing doors that add to its exoticness. Even though Atkinson is of taller stature, he has figured out a way to get in and out of his pride and joy.

Atkinson raced the Aston Martin Vantage Zagato over a period of three years. Some races were successful and some not so much. After he retired the car from racing, he had it reverted back to road use.

Even considering the rarity of this supercar, and the value to only increase over time, Atkinson decided to sell his Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato.

It appears that Atkinson has continued to hang onto his electric blue Acura NSX since purchasing it. The first generation of Acura NSX, which is what Atkinson purchased, was in production from 1990-2005. The second generation has now taken over where the old one left off.

After 41,000 miles, two crashes, and 17 years of ownership, Atkinson decided to sell his McLaren F1 supercar. During his ownership time, Atkinson took the car to the track a couple of times but kept mainly to street driving.

Even after the two crashes, the collector's dream car sold for an astounding $12.2 million in June 2015. Reasons for selling his beloved supercar? He felt it was time for someone else to enjoy the car.

1 Mr. Bean Mini

When the character Mr. Bean is mentioned, an automatic association is Mr. Bean's Mini. To add comedy to the sitcom, Mr. Bean would lock the doors on his Mini with a padlock. And sometimes take the steering wheel with him….maybe a bit of playful fun on it being a “race car”. Maybe Mr. Bean will modify his Mini to become the next supercar…..
