The Transporter films are some of the most intriguing film series out there, starring a mercenary transporter who will deliver anything, anywhere and anytime with no questions asked. And in the films, BMW cars take on quite a big role, as does a Mercedes-Benz S Class. These are high performance cars that are perfect for someone who wants to get somewhere fast, and when you perhaps want to outrun the law! So how do you make a better car for such a film?

Enter Mercedes-Benz and AMG, and the rather incredible 2024 S-Class hybrid in the form of the S 63 E Performance. This latest offering from the German giants brings the S-Class right up to date with astonishing hybrid power that creates the most powerful S-Class to ever come from the manufacturer. Plus, the new S-Class keeps the level of luxury that we would come to expect from any Mercedes product, meaning this really is a big step forward for one of the main cars within the Mercedes range. Mercedes has made this the perfect car for the next Transporter film.

The Hybrid Power Really Is The Star Of The Show

At the heart of this new S-Class is of course that meaty hybrid power, for what is officially the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance. The main power source is the 4.0-liter V8 engine, a twin-turbo that produces plenty of power on its own. When you add in the rear-axle mounted electric motor, this new Mercedes produces a rather healthy 791 hp which is oodles of power for a very potent and powerful machine. This means the 0-60 mph time of the sedan is 3.2 seconds, and for those in the United States, there is even more good news.

In Europe, the AMG Driver’s Package is an optional feature, so as standard the car has a top speed of 155 mph. However, in the United States, this package is a standard feature. This means that the S-Class in North America will reach a top speed of 180 mph. That is quite the jump on its European counterpart. The V8 engine itself produces 603 hp with the electric motor adding an extra 94 hp of continuous on top of the twin-turbo V8 power. A peak of 188 hp is on offer for the S-Class in 10-second intervals from the electric motor.

Offering Stunning Mercedes Looks For A New Generation

While the new S 63 E Performance is hardly a transformation compared to the standard S-Class in the range, it still offers a mildly aggressive change compared to the standard model. We can see plenty of vertical louvers all across the car, with an AMG emblem formed of a mix of both chrome and black and sitting at the very tip of the nose. Below all of that, lower openings on either side of the car are visible, lending more to the more aggressive face of the hybrid performance model.

Mercedes themselves say that the car features an expressive exterior design, and it is certainly hard to argue with that. This car marks the first time that an S-Class has borne the AMG-specific radiator grille with those vertical louvers, and a large central star as well. The rear of the cars sees characteristic design features that we are familiar with on the AMG 63 models such as the trapezoidal, fluted twin-tailpipes as well as the wide diffuser with its longitudinal fins, and the diffuser board. Mercedes-AMG have not reinvented the wheel with the looks of the new S 63 E, but they really did not have too.

Offering Up A Luxurious Mercedes Interior

The new model offers up as luxurious an interior as you would expect from a Mercedes-AMG performance model. Seating for four is comfortable and spacious, while an MBUX infotainment system brings specific displays for the AMG and the hybrid powertrain features. As standard, the S 63 E gets a heads-up display, while the steering wheel also features the ability to select among four braking recuperation modes. There are four levels ranging from level 0 where the car behaves in a conventional manner, up to level three with the highest energy recovery and “one-pedal” driving per an EV.

Mercedes-AMG have certainly offered a car that would be perfect for any transporter. It's fast, it's stylish, it's aggressive, and it offers up plenty of luxury as well. It really is perfect for the job. Nearly 800 hp on offer from a sedan is a quite ludicrous power figure, and it's little wonder that the S 63 E is a hugely popular part of the Mercedes-AMG lineup. And the brand has brought it right into the 21st century with the inclusion of its new hybrid power to make it the most powerful S-Class we have ever seen.
