Mercedes has added a huge 12.8-inch OLED screen to the new S-Class. The touchscreen can tell where your finger is even before you've pressed it, and you get haptic feedback as well. There is a lot of tech that's inspired by smartphones, as you also get a fingerprint scanner and face ID.

If someone does try to activate the screen, the Mercedes voice activation system won't grant access until you say, "Hey Mercedes." The driver's screen measures 12.3 inches diagonally, which also makes it quite gargantuan, functionally speaking.

9 MBUX

MBUX is Mercedes' interactive communications system that enables some cool features. The system comes with a bandwidth of 41,790 MB/s and identifies 27 different languages. The S-Class features five screens in total. Some come with the OLED technology, as spoken about earlier, and are available with haptic feedback. The driver's screen, has spatial perception of the scene and features a true 3D effect that tracks eye movements.

The driver also gets a heads-up display with augmented reality. The function comes in handy during navigation as it displays arrows when you are approaching a turn ahead. The MBUX has a camera built inside the cabin upper control panel, which uses the system's learning algorithms to assist and recognize the commands of the passenger. It uses the passenger's body language/head movement and reacts using the relevant vehicle function. As an example, to open the sunroof you just wave your hand back, and it opens the sunroof on that command.

8 The Sound System

One of the coolest features of the new S-Class is its new stereo system. For a luxury vehicle, a good sound system is vital, and Mercedes has taken note of this by adding one of the best available on any car to date.

The seats have a special built-in Burmester stereo system, which has a built-in vibration pad for you to feel the bass coming from the stereo speakers to give you a first-of-its-kind 4D sound experience. The S-Class comes with a total of 30 speakers, making it almost concert-like.

7 Better Turning Radius

Due to the immense size of the new S-Class, Mercedes added rear-wheel steering to combat the enormous turning circle that would have resulted otherwise.

The new rear-wheel steering on the S-Class dramatically reduces the turning radius of what is a pretty large car. This makes it easier for the car to turn at the tight corners. The turning radius will be almost exactly the same as the A-Class which, considering the much smaller dimensions of the affordable Mercedes compared to the S-Class, is fairly remarkable.

6 Autonomous Driving

The S-Class is capable of level 3 autonomous driving. This can brake, steer, accelerate and change lanes on the road automatically just like Teslas. You can even take your hands off the wheel for a short while for a true autonomous experience.

The car's intelligent AI makes sure that you are paying attention, however, by using two cameras that constantly monitor your eyes. It also features an intelligent Park Pilot feature that lets you park your car itself in a multi-story parking area. The same can be done by using your phone. This feature will only be available in countries that allow it, however.

5 High-Tech Headlights

The LED headlights on the S-Class have 84 built-in diodes with a whopping 1.3 million tiny mirrors. These project the light exactly where you need it to be. The tiny mirrors will put the beam directly at the pedestrians in order to make sure you've seen them, and it also displays a warning symbol on the road ahead.

The system found in the S-class also uses data from the satellite navigation to angle the headlight down when you are getting close to people in order to avoid blinding those coming in the opposite direction, but you can still see exactly what you need to see.

It even features new door handles that hide inside the door panel to reduce the drag for better speed. Around 216 lbs of the components in the car are recycled, which also makes the S-Class more environmentally friendly.

The classic Mercedes large front grille is also back along with the new high-tech headlights and small chrome accents around the car, giving it both a classic and contemporary feel at the same time.

2 Safety Features

As expected, the S-Class comes with impressive safety technology. For starters, there's a new backseat airbag, these are even legitimate full-size airbags that pop out of the front seats just like you would find in the front of a car.

This means passengers in the back seat get just as much protection as the driver in a head-on crash. Another cool feature is the Pre-Safe impulse side system. This automatically raises when it senses an accident and causes the air suspension to rise by over three inches. This helps in diverting the energy from the crash away from the doors and into the car's floor, which is where the car is the strongest and so it protects everyone inside. In fact, the E-Active Body Control system analyzes the driving circumstances and adjusts the suspension 1,000 times per second.
