Mercedes-AMG created a post on Facebook congratulating Porsche on its Nurburgring record. But the post itself appears more like an ironic play on words, since the text notes that in order to achieve such a time the car needed to install some improvements.

As a reminder, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS completed the North Loop in 6 minutes 38.835 seconds. A few months earlier, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series did the same in 6-minutes, 43.616 seconds. Earlier, the title of fastest car was held by the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, which accomplished it in 6-minutes, 44.97 seconds in 2018.

When preparing the 911, the Porsche team used a package from Manthey Racing. The kit included aerodynamic components and a retuned suspension with brakes. However, the engine remained standard: the 3.8-liter unit produces 700 hp and 750 Nm.

What Did The Mercedes-AMG Post Say?

As for the Mercedes-AMG post itself, it begins with the words of fair competition and then mentions the upgrade described above, which, in fact, helped Porsche set a new world record. However, the improvements did not prevent the notary from fixing the new time and recognizing the 911 GT2 RS as the fastest on the Northern Loop. The reason is quite legitimate: the Manthey Performance Kit is also considered serial and is available for purchase through the official dealerships of the German brand, and reportedly even comes with a Porsche factory warranty.
