For those that cannot wait for Chevrolet to make them a real mid-engined Corvette, there’s a unique car up for sale in the UK that should fit the bill.

The next generation of Chevy Corvette will be a mid-engine supercar the likes of which the world has never seen. Or, actually, the likes of which the world has seen, but only once. It was made in 1993 by a little known Czech engineer who had big dreams for his American car.

His name was Vaclav Kral, head of the design house Design Kral, also known as INNOTECH. He became famous in his native Czechoslovakia for his designs and even worked for Porsche on a few occasions.

But his best-known creation was easily a unique, mid-engine Corvette he built from the existing C4-generation of ‘Vette. It was called the 1993 INNOTECH Corvette, but was given a far cooler nickname: “Mysterro”.

Handbuilt between the years 1993 and 1994, the Mysterro made its world debut at the Bratislava (Slovakia) International Car Show in ‘94. It also won a design award from the Czech government that same year.

Most of the car is a C4 Corvette, from the engine, brakes, and suspension, to the steering column and chassis. Everything else is completely custom made.

The transmission is a custom-built 5-speed manual transaxle made especially for the car. The wheels are 10x18-inchers in the front and 12x18-inches in the rear. Power comes from the aforementioned Corvette LT-1 5.7-L V8 which puts down about 300 hp.

The dashboard and part of the center console is made out of carbon fiber, which was an innovative addition for cars at the time. The rest of the inside is hand-stitched leather upholstery. To Recaro A8 racing seats sit side by side while a Momo steering wheel and shift knob serve as controls and an Alpine audio system pumps out tunes from the radio and tape cassette player.

It’s also for sale at RaceCarsDirect for a cool 250,000 euros (or about $286,000 USD). That’s a steep price, but for a bespoke one-off car and the ability to say you owned a mid-engine Corvette before anyone else, the price just might be right.
