With the release of the new 2024 S650-generation Ford Mustang just around the corner, the iconic pony car is more popular than ever in the media. Whether it is confirming 2024 Ford Mustang S650 horsepower numbers in the GT model and Dark Horse, or spotting real examples of the Mustang out in the wild, expect more stories to come up as we get closer to the sports car's release.

With that in mind, the YouTuber TheSketchMonkey imagines what would happen if the new Ford Mustang ditched its traditional front-engine setup in favor of a mid-engine design. This is what the pony car would look like it if went down the path of the Chevrolet C8 Corvette and put the motor behind the driver.

Design Elements Of This Mid-Engine Ford Mustang

In the video, the artist produced both a coupe and a convertible, and it’s easy to say these would be some eye-catching cars if they were ever produced. He then talks about how the new Mustang would look good with a swooping front end that a mid-engine car allows. He also wants to add in the air intakes of the Ford GT to give a nod to the brand’s halo car.

The design is true to the source with very similar Mustang lines in the body as well as the iconic grille. If this car were to end up with a price under the Corvette’s base model, it could really shake up the American car market.

More Power Than A 5.0-Liter Coyote V8

Since Ford recently announced the 2024 Dark Horse Mustang will have 500 hp, the Coyote 5.0-liter V8 is the natural choice for the what-if version of the Mustang. Since this is a one-off creation from imagination land, why not give this new Mustang a little more power to go along with its updated looks? The first logical choice is the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 from the Shelby GT500 which produces 760 horsepower.

That would up the ante and make this an insanely fast modern pony car for the next generation. Considering there is no confirmed next-generation Chevrolet Camaro, this Mustang would earn best in class. To blow the competition out of the water though, stuffing the massive Godzilla 7.3-liter engine in this with a turbo and over 1,000 hp would be the way to go.
