It's not unusual for car manufacturers to celebrate milestones. This can either be an anniversary for the company itself, one of their models, or something significant that has happened in the company's history. There are also more unusual celebrations, and Mini – or rather BMW who owns them – has decided to do something a bit different. They have adorned the Mini Electric with a canvas by Italian comics artist Carmine Di Giandomenico to celebrate 80 years of the DC Comics superhero “The Flash.”

Special Paint Scheme

The paint scheme has been done to celebrate Lucca Changes 2020, which is an international fair dedicated to comics, gaming, animation, and fantasy. This year, it took place October 29 to November 1, although sadly due to the pandemic, it was online only. The Flash’s main characteristic is, of course, super speed and his first appearance was in 1940 in the United States, 80 years ago.

The Mini Electric was launched by parent company BMW this year, and it utilizes powertrain technology from the BMW i3 and has twelve-packs of lithium-ion cells in a T-shape. These are located between the car's front seats and below the rear seats. Its range, according to EPA, is 110 miles or 177km. We first saw the Mini Electric back in 2017 at Frankfurt IAA originally as a concept car. And 2020 has seen it become available to the public. There is also a chance that BMW will make the Mini brand all-electric in the future.

The Flash Tribute

The tribute by Mini to “The Flash” has been conceived in synergy with Panini Comics, and they will publish DC Multiverse comics in Italy starting this year. And thanks to the pandemic, the partnership was announced via a virtual press conference, such as the way that the world is working now. Look out for this being shared on Mini’s social profiles, with a few more images surely set to circulate on the web.
