Not everyone gets the chance to win their dream sports car, and not everyone gets to crash their dream car a day after winning it. Well, for one man in the UK, his dream came to reality before literally spinning out of control and turning into his worst nightmare. A double tragedy of sorts.

On Monday, Adam Griffiths, 27, was the lucky winner of a red Mitsubishi Evolution IX and £1,000 through a ticket he purchased online through Dream Car Giveaways. The company uses a third-party ticket number generator for its live draws, and on that lucky day, Griffiths held the winning ticket. He traveled about 90 miles to collect his dream Evo the following day.

Evo IX had little over 70,000 miles

DCG, on Monday, did what it regularly does—give away dream vehicles! In this case, a glossy red Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX. The Evo was an FQ-320, with little over 70,000 miles, with a full-service history, minor mods, recently painted, and an additional £1,000 for running costs.

A day after collecting his car, Griffiths crashed the vehicle on Cardiff Road in Pontypridd. According to South Wales Police, both the driver and a passenger suffered minor injuries.

DGC on their Facebook page had posted an image of Griffiths next to his shiny red Mitsubishi Evo IX. “A lovely example this was, which I am sure he will get many happy miles from.” The “many happy miles” wish from Dream Car Giveaways was short-lived. Ironically, the all-wheel-drive Japanese legend was involved in a single-car collision 24-hours after pick-up.

Both the front and rear end were banged up pretty badly, and unfortunately, written off.

Griffiths has since taken down his Facebook account after being targeted with abuse over the incident. Thousands of car enthusiasts took to the DCG’s Facebook page to vent their frustrations over the incident.

“As most of you will be aware, the Evo was written off in an incident this morning. The main thing is Adam is fine, we don’t know what happened, and we won’t speculate," Dream Car Giveaways confirmed the incident on their Facebook Page.

Dream Car Giveaways is a Popular UK competition company. Among the cars on the draw for lucky winners this week are a 2018 Audi RS5, a Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, a 260-HP ITB Integra DC5, and a 2019 BMW X5 30D.

The Evo IX is undeniably one of the best Japanese cars ever made. Packed with an all-wheel-drive system, Active Yaw Control, and plenty of boost, the FQ-320 is the ultimate race car of the ’90s. It’s sad it had to end this way—but on the other hand, it could have been worse.
