Check out Tesla Model X, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S in drag race action.
And now in full 360-degrees!
We actually saw this race a little while ago back in December, but now we’re seeing it in a totally different light thanks to the magic of technology. YouTube has a new feature that allows footage to be shown in a full 360 degrees, which means we can see the action as it unfolds like never before.
But to start, let’s re-introduce our competitors. In the middle is the Tesla Model X P100D. The Tesla will serve as our camera operator for the race as it will likely be the quietest of the three thanks to the fact it has no combustion going on. Instead, it has a pair of electric motors that combine to produce 588 hp and an incredible 920 lb-ft of on-demand torque.
Zero to sixty is done in 2.9 seconds on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
On the right is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, or as we like to call it, the fastest apartment building on wheels. It has a 6.2-L supercharged HEMI V8 sourced from a Dodge Hellcat and produces the same 707 hp and 645 lb-ft as the smaller sedan. Zero to sixty is done in 3.5 seconds on its way to a drag-limited top speed of 180 mph.
And on the left is the Mercedes. It’s a good SUV, with a 4.0-L twin-turbo V8 producing 503 hp and 516 lb-ft, but it’s outclassed by the Trackhawk and Tesla. Really, this is a two pony race.
This time we get a perfect show of just how the drag race went down. The Trackhawk gets a tiny head start on the Tesla, but then the Model X scoots ahead. The Trackhawk seems to be holding on and eventually even starts to crawl back into the lead, but not before they hit the quarter-mile finish line.
The Tesla finished in 118 seconds, the Trackhawk in 11.9 seconds, and the GLC 63 S in 12.3 seconds.
Hopefully we’ll get to see more of these sorts of videos out of Carwow in the future as they provide a vastly better picture of the race.
