Check out this modified Nissan GT-R on this top speed test at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds.

The last time we saw this particular modified Nissan GT-R (which can be identified by the “GIGGIDDY” license plate) was also at the Bohmer Proving Grounds last month. In that test, the GT-R performed a standing mile run and seemed to easily reach 196 miles per hour, leading us to assume the follow-up top speed test would provide a pretty impressive number.

Under the hood is the same 3.8-L twin-turbo V6 as it was born with, but it has been tuned to produce 720 horsepower and 635 lb-ft of torque. GT-Rs are known for producing some extreme performance stats thanks in no small part to Nissan’s bulletproof VR38DETT engine. We’ve seen various versions of this car produce anywhere a modest 700 horses to 1,600 hp and beyond.

Although there was that one time a GT-R spat out a turbo wheel, so there is definitely a maximum threshold of what this engine can take.

Anyway, back to our top speed test. What we didn’t know about this car last time was that the entire body has been replaced by a carbon fiber version, rather than just the hood, front splitter, air ducts, and rear wing that comes with the NISMO version of the GT-R. That should lighten the car even further and allow it to easily surpass its previous best speed of 196 mph.

As with the previous mile-long run, the GT-R doesn’t sprint to its maximum speed straight off the bat. In fact, it takes a fairly leisurely pace and even seems to slow down after reach 70. You can see the accelerometer in the lower right-hand corner dip between 70 and 120 mph before it kicks up again.

However, the car seems to struggle much earlier than the mile-long test. It manages to reach 205 mph, but then dips back down to 201-203 before hitting 205 again just before the warning marker.

We can’t help but think this GT-R deserves another pass as it must have suffered some sort of mechanical difficulty. Hopefully, Bohmer is able to shoot another test video soon.
