Fears by Dodge fans that the parent company's merger with Fiat would dilute the brand's all-american credentials were quickly brushed off amidst the constant parade of more powerful red-blooded American variants of the Dodge Challenger and Charger. In fact, it only seems a matter of time when the SRT Hellcat Redeye Demons get eclipsed by a legit factory offering that produces power in the four-figure range. Such is the power of these cars that they already have been deemed unsafe by the National Hot Rod Association for racing stock without a roll cage. Now that's American.
So is the idea of keeping it in the family, or extended family in the case of this Italian-American blend of a 1984 Alfa Romeo GTV with a massive Mopar engine bolted under the hood. That is one way of raising the power-to-weight ratio even higher and it certainly looks like a ton of fun.
Not Anywhere Close To Stock
From the factory, the Alfa Romeo GTV maxed out with a 3.0-liter V6 under the hood (though a rally-built homologation special for South Africa employed a V8), which never even got close to pumping out 200 horsepower in stock trim. But this car isn't anywhere close to stock anymore, as clearly shown on owner Alain Dürr's Facebook page detailing the extensive build and its impressive performance potential.
American Muscle
Under the hood now lurks a Mopar Performance V8 displacing 7.2 liters, benefiting from a Weiand 8-71 supercharger bolted on top and sticking well above the original hood line. All together, the setup produces a claimed output of 1,050 horsepower, which is routed to the massive rear wheels through a two-speed Powerglide automatic gearbox because with power like that, how many speeds do you need? In a car that weighs around 2,400 pounds, that combo allows for a quarter-mile time logged at 8.52 seconds at a trap speed of 158 miles per hour. Arrivederci y'all!
