It seems that at the moment, no matter where you look, a new hypercar is being announced. Not all of these come from large manufacturers either. A lot of smaller companies and startups are getting in on the act, including Swiss firm Morand cars. Whilst, not a startup, they are smaller than most manufacurers. In a report from British publication Autocar, the company states that their car is on track for a full launch in 2023 with a prototype set to appear a year earlier later on in 2021.

Two Powertrain Options Are To Be Available

The Morand Hypercar will have two options available. There is set to be both a plug-in hybrid version and a fully electric version. The EV prototype is set to appear on the scene in 2022. With a carbon fiber monocoque and sustainable flax-based composite body, the car is expected to produce around 1,950 hp in full EV spec powered by four permanent magnet motors.

Benoit Morand, the founder of the company alongside Eric Boullier, says the company is “working on a disruptive technology with cells that have a greater energy density than those used in Formula E.”

The hybrid meanwhile will have a bespoke, 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine able to produce an expected 690 hp. This is to be paired with an electric motor-generator and an Xtrac, 7-speed automated manual transaxle gearbox. The electric power adds over 440 hp giving a maximum power output of around 1,100 hp.

The company is also working on a special storage device, a 300kW hybrid of both battery and supercapacitor of 2.5kWh to give an electric-only range of around 31 miles.

Body And Interior To Be Made Of Amplitex

The whole body and the interior are to be made from a sustainable composite called Amplitex. The combination of both this material and carbon fiber for the monocoque is to hopefully get the most performance and sustainability possible for the Morand Hypercar.

Like a lot of high-performance machines, it is set to be quite exclusive. Autocar's report states that only 73 of these are to be built, which includes both hybrid and EV variants. It is not yet clear how many of these will be EVs and how many will be hybrids yet.
