Koenigsegg is a Swedish automaker that established itself in the sports car segment by building powerful 1000+hp supercars. The CC8S was the company’s first production car and came bearing the Koenigsegg’s trademark dihedral synchro-helix actuation doors. It won several awards during its time, including the Guinness World record for the most powerful production engine. Thus, it set the template for the engineering expertise culminating in the 2014 Koenigsegg One 1.

The One 1 was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014, based on the 2013 Koenigsegg Agera R. In a way, the One 1 marked the 20th birthday celebration of the Swedish sensation. Back in 1994, 22-year-old Koenigsegg set off a dream to start a car company that specialized in exotic sports cars. He went beyond seeing the Koenigsegg company grow, expand and evolve for the next two decades. First came the CC8S, then the once world’s fastest CCR, then the Koenigsegg One 1, with several others in between. The One 1 is not just any other ordinary supercar, just check out these incredible facts about the Swedish hypercar.

10 Origin Of The One 1 Name

The Koenigsegg One 1 produces 1360 PS (1341 hp). The total curb weight stands at 1360 kg (2998 pounds), thanks to carbon fiber parts. In other terms, it weighs less than the Mini Cooper…impressive! The One 1 boasts 1 hp for every 1 kg, beating even the mighty Bugatti Veyron Super Sport which has a power to weight ratio of 1:1.5.

The name - meant to be pronounced as “one-to-one” rather than “one-one” - refers to the car’s perfect 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. It was previously thought impossible for a road-legal sports car until the 2014 Koenigsegg One became the first production car to achieve the perfect hp-to-kg curb weight ratio.

9 World’s First Megacar

We first had supercars, the exotic, high-performance Lambos and Ferraris packing between 500hp-700hp. They were dethroned by hypercars, which were more exotic, faster, and with more horses (above 800hp). It was inevitable that the hypercars would be overthrown one day.

That day arrived when the Swedish automaker unveiled the Koenigsegg Agera One 1, the first homologated production car on the planet with a full-power megawatt, hence the name “megacar.” The engine generates a maximum 1360 PS power output or 1341 hp equivalent to 1000 kW (megawatt). So, where do we go from megacar? The 2000+hp insane ultracar.

8 Runs On Different Fuels

One of the most incredible facts about the Koenigsegg One 1 is its capability to run on different fuels – regular gasoline, high-octane race fuel, and the E85 biofuel. To achieve the 1:1 power-to-weight ratio, the Koenigsegg was running on the E85 Ethanol. Still, regular unleaded super isn’t badly off as the engine produces a maximum of 1160 hp.

Koenigsegg has been at the forefront towards green technology since it released the CCXR in 2007, which runs on biofuel. The One 1 follows in the CCXR’s footsteps to meet the strict Euro VI emission standards.

Only 7 units of the Koenigsegg Agera One 1 were produced, including the factory prototype. Buying one today is almost impossible, as the six customer versions were pre-sold ahead of their debut at the Geneva Motor Show. In keeping up with the car’s status, all cars origianlly cost their wealthy owners about $2,850,000 (base price).

In 2016, the Koenigsegg One 1 was amongst a collection of 25 supercars confiscated from Equatorial Guinea’s vice president by the Swiss authorities. The supercars were later sold at an auction in September 2019, and the Koenigsegg fetched $4.6 million.

6 Full Of Carbon Fiber Components

Using carbon fiber as a way of shedding extra pounds is common in modern supercars. It goes without saying Koenigsegg One 1 had to adopt this wonder material as it chased the 1:1 power-to-weight ratio and the fastest production car accolade.

Peeling away the carbon-Kevlar body exposes the carbon-fiber monocoque (20% lighter than the Agera) and a plethora of crafted fiber parts, suspension components, and the central tub. Koenigsegg went a step further and used wheels made of resin-impregnated solid fibers. But it isn’t just about weight when it comes to the One 1; the rigid chassis can withstand extreme cornering forces.

5 Its Extraordinarily Powerful V8 Engine

Beneath the rear engine cover is an in-house designed 5.0-liter V8 engine augmented by twin turbos. In essence, it’s a tweaked, more powerful unit lifted from the Koenigsegg Agera R. The powerful mill cranks out a neck-snapping 1341 hp and a massive 1011 lb-ft of torque.

The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that combines with an electronic differential to push all power to the rear wheels. While the Bugatti Veyron churns out 1000-plus-hp from a W16 quad-turbocharged motor, the impressive Koenigsegg makes more with half the number of turbos and cylinders.

4 One Of The Fastest Production Cars

Amid a flurry of media hype in 2014, the One 1 quickly raised the supercar performance bar by setting new benchmarks. It shocked the likes of Porsche, Ferrari, and McLaren when it recorded a maximum speed of 273 mph while chasing the planet’s fastest production car accolade. Koenigsegg still downplay this fact by insisting that top speed wasn’t a priority during the car’s development.

What’s more impressive is that the Koenigsegg can go from 0-250 mph in 20 seconds. Acceleration from standstill to 60 mph was a claimed 3.2 seconds.

3 Its Unique Doors

Koenigsegg went with a complete makeover on the doors of the One 1. Not gullwing or scissor-style; instead, the doors open outwards then vertically upwards via a dihedral synchro-helix system (found in all other Koenigsegg cars). These unique doors set it further apart from Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1.

The Koenigsegg vertically opening doors are aesthetically pleasing and come in handy when parking in tight spaces – you are, however, warned to avoid operating the doors and the bonnet simultaneously when the car’s battery is off.

2 Futuristic Interior

Koenigsegg kept the large, round illuminated dials and switches to a minimum, limiting the driver’s distraction to the basics such as road speed, engine speed, and engine data. Everything else is placed on the center fascia. Above the dashboard are a set of air vents and an infotainment system.

The interior is full of Alcantara, carbon fiber, and high-quality plastic finished off with unique Koenigsegg logos. A sound cancellation system is available that lowers cabin noise levels through the speakers. Trunk space is limited compared to the Agera R, however, this is due to aerodynamic changes in the Koenigsegg One 1.

The Koenigsegg one 1 had to lose the smooth, rounded look of the Agera R due to the fully revamped aerodynamic package. At the front is a massive splitter and side winglets that combine with active flaps and hood outlets meant to increase downforce by diverting air below the chassis to the twin venturi tunnels.

At the rear, you get a massive wing extending off the roof's slope. According to Koenigsegg, it was the world’s first active rear wing mounted on the rear top of a car. The wing is electronically controlled and adjusts between low drag and high downforce depending upon the car’s speed and G-force.
