Let The Grand Plan Begin

Munro's new all-terrain 4x4 just recently was announced for arrival in 2023. The introduction of this vehicle is just one step in a greater scheme, as this vehicle is planned to be supplied to industrial operations in the United States starting in 2023. The Munro 4x4 utility EV should have many practical features, such as locking differentials and four-wheel drive.

Its current planned MSRP is approximately $88,500, and Munro aims to make more of its production fleet consist of left-hand-drive vehicles for the United States market. They also plan to boost their fleet as a whole between next year and 2030. Specific areas that Munro aims to supply these vehicles within the United States (and Canada) include Canadian forestry businesses, Floridian farms, Texan oil fields, and gold mines in Nevada.

The EV also is planned to be zero-emission and have a 168-mile range. Munro plans a collaboration with sales, leasing, and distribution specialist Wyre to expedite their initial timetable, and also to assist in entering the North American market sooner than expected.

The details behind the Munro 4x4 utility EV were carefully crafted. Munro made sure to give the new vehicle rigid axles and a two-speed transfer box. The vehicle also can carry 2200 lbs of payload, and between 7,700-15,400 lbs for towing purposes.

The flux motor puts out 376 HP while also delivering 516 ft-lb of torque, can reach 60 MPH in under five seconds, and the battery has 80.1 kWh of useable capacity, chargeable from 15-80% in just 36 minutes at high power CCS units, to deliver the aforementioned 168-mile range. That also compares to approximately 16 hours of use for non-highway driving.

That said, charging the Munro 4x4 utility EV will take around three hours when charging at a home or business. The vehicle has a two-speed transmission and a custom-engineered body and frame with a galvanized steel chassis.

Should anything need repair, Munro claims repairs will be “fast, straightforward and inexpensive,” according to their website. Furthermore, Munro adds that users can take advantage of the Munro Service Fleet no matter where they are within the United States.

The Munro 4x4 utility EV is also largely customizable down to several details, including the paint scheme, tires, suspension, and interior materials. On top of that, Munro gave its electrical components protection against both dust and water to avoid extensive service and repair, and its modular construction allows it to be adapted for a wide array of purposes.

Munro Has Solid Goals In Mind

When Munro designed the initial plans for this 4x4, they had very determined, specific goals behind its purpose and construction. As EVs are becoming more popular, practical, and widespread, Munro wanted to combine the features of an EV with the features of an off-roading vehicle, as few vehicles fall into both categories.

The Munro 4x4 utility EV was the brainchild of both former agricultural contractor Russ Peterson and business partner Ross Anderson. They had specific visions, guidelines, and goals: tow heavy loads, have enough battery power for 150 miles per charge, traverse tough terrain, carry five people plus cargo, be eco-friendly, and be simple yet capable.

To that end, the pair decided to adapt an existing platform to suit their needs, as opposed to creating a brand-new one. Ultimately, they chose the Sheffield-built Ibex that had a lot in common with Land Rover’s original Defender. The pair was joined by David Foers, who began work on the Munro project as well. When the project started, it was early 2019. By the end of 2021, a test-ready vehicle was completed.

Munro EV Is Coming To The US

With this new Munro 4x4 utility EV designed, Munro plans an expansion into the United States, which they see as a key growth market. A sales deal was officially signed and not only will it help Munro expand, but it will also help Wyre expand its operations in the United States as well.

Most planned buyers are expected to come from industries such as mining, oil, gas, and forestry, though Munro hopes more farmers will also be interested. Wyre has exclusive sale and distribution rights within the United States for the Munro 4x4 utility EV. As of now, the Munro 4x4 utility EV plans to arrive for sale in the United States in 2023.
