As a brand, Jeep has garnered a cult following thanks to its inspiring heritage. The 2022 Grand Cherokee—Jeep’s flagship five-seater SUV—has always been at the forefront of impressive off-road performance while offering a fair bit of luxury. Over the years, Jeep has ensured that comfort and practicality remain top-class in the Grand Cherokee package, as does its capabilities off the beaten path. And fortunately, these qualities are carried over, if not enhanced, for 2023.

Not too long ago, Jeep showcased the all-new Grand Cherokee in its seven-seater L version. Soon after, the brand took the covers off its two-row five-seater model. The 2023 Grand Cherokee is very much an L without the additional row of seats. However, what does set them apart further is the available hybrid and bespoke off-road versions. Dubbed Grand Cherokee 4xe and Trailhawk, these trims add a bit of flavor to the Grand Cherokee lineup with their breadth of abilities.

Jeep has priced the 2023 Grand Cherokee at $40,595 for the base Laredo and $67,750 for the Summit reserve, making it a few thousand dollars cheaper than the Grand Cherokee L, which starts from $42,595 and tops out at $69,740.

One thing that we’re familiar with the Grand Cherokee is its bold design; not too over the top yet imposing enough. While the 2022 model year is a complete redesign for the Grand Cherokee, Jeep hasn’t veered off from its styling ethos all that much. Jeep has kept the idea rolling for yet another year without taking a leap of faith.

Every bit of the Grand Cherokee’s design detail is polished to look younger but unmistakably a Jeep. The redesign does bring a fresh look, however, it’s exactly the same as what we saw in the Grand Cherokee L. Compared to its long wheelbase cousin, the regular Grand Cherokee is nearly a foot shorter. Despite not having the extra five inches of wheelbase, the Grand Cherokee, if anything, looks proportionate in this body style.

Another interesting trivia relating to exterior dimensions is the floating pillar design. Not that it stands out as a design highlight, but its presence does provide a sleeker rear profile. Also, bits like the Grand CherokeeTrailhawks’ Goodyear all-terrain tires and increased ground clearance are sure to impress a few off-road enthusiasts. Overall, we’d say the 2023 Grand Cherokee has gotten younger and more polished than its predecessor.

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Gets A Variety Of Powertrain Choices

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes in 5 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve. The 4xe hybrid setup is available on all but the base Laredo, while the optional V8 is limited to the latter four.

Jeep hasn't messed about with the engines all that much. The options remain similar to its bigger L sibling, and the range kicks off with a 3.6L V6 with 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Transmission is an 8-speed automatic with rear-wheel drive as standard, however, Jeep offers all-wheel-drive as an available option.

Move up the trim ladder, and you’re presented with the choice of a 5.7L V8. A familiar Stellantis engine, the unit pumps out 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The V8 can only be had with all-wheel-drive and makes do with the same 8-speed transmission. The hybrid powertrain is in a similar setup to the Wrangler 4xe. The combination includes a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four gasoline engine and two electric motors. Combined power output stands at 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft with an electric-only range of 25 miles.

Jeep has taken a bold step in redesigning the interiors. The update was a much-needed exercise considering the previous-gen was starting to look a bit dated. The lack of a third-row and middle-row captain’s chairs are what separates the 2023 Grand Cherokee from its L version. Otherwise, the interior of the new Grand Cherokee remains similar, with the 10.1-inch (8.4-inch as standard) touchscreen display dominating the center stack. The cabin exudes quality, and there is no shortage of space. Go up the trim ladder, and everything from the speaker surrounds to the dash tops is lined with quality materials, which is expected in a car of this price point.

The base Laredo pretty much offers the essentials. On the upper trims, the Grand Cherokee offers several convenience features like massaging seats, and heated front and rear seats with multi-zone climate control. Other interior amenities include a panoramic sunroof, a power rear liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and ambient lighting. The icing on the cake would be the optional 19-speaker premium McIntosh surround-sound system, which is a treat to your senses.

In terms of safety, the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets all the latest driver-assistance technology, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist. Other safety features onboard include driver drowsiness detection and night vision alongside automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
