After many years of fans wondering if and when the mighty Hummer might return, tonight is the night. The brand is evolving from a gas-guzzling vehicle of excess to one of opulent but environmentally conscious off-road ruggedness. When General Motors said that they were bringing the Hummer back, many doubted that they could truly pull off a unique and capable off-roader but that's precisely what they've accomplished.

This Hummer EV Is Packed With Features

For owners who want to see how far into the wilderness the Hummer can take them, they'll be treated to features that even some of the most extreme rock crawlers lack. For example, the Ultravision feature provides real-time camera angles of the underbody of the truck to allow drivers to see what they're driving over. Should one find themselves on a particularly tricky trail, Extract mode allows the entire vehicle to lift itself a further 6 inches to gain added clearance.

Finally, the Crabwalk feature we previewed earlier today demonstrates GMC's understanding that sometimes the only way out is sideways with rear-wheel steering. This truck isn't just about off-roading though, as it should be a capable daily driver to and from the office as well.

Hummer EV Gets An Estimated 350 Miles Per Charge

The giant size of the Hummer provides ample space for batteries and with 350 miles available of range per charge, it should be capable of taking most owners anywhere they might want to go. When hooked up to a quick charger, the EV truck can charge to 100 miles of range in just ten minutes. That's clearly enough for the average consumer who travels far less than that each day.

Power is serious too with the Hummer as the top of the range model is rated at 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. The motors will propel the vehicle to 60 miles per hour in just 3 seconds. That's good enough to keep up with the other big players in the space and for the first time, a company with more history than Tesla is in the space.

This Truck Will Be An Enthusiast Focused Force

With stock specially built 35-inch tires, the Hummer comes with the shoes most fans would've been eager to install had they not sold it as such. In fact, upgrading to 37-inch tires is no big hurdle with the Hummer. Plus, with the Infinity modular roof system, this will be a truly memorable vehicle to occupy. Clearly, GMC and the new Hummer EV is ready to go where no Hummer has gone before.
