The Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR was an icon of the ‘90s supercars. So many aspects of this car made it so famous, but its rarity was one of the main reasons that it gained such notoriety. There were only ever 26 of these cars manufactured and their price just keeps climbing with each year that passes.

With that in mind, HotCars digital artist Rostislav Prokop has given the CLK-GTR a modern makeover, so let’s delve deeper into this unique beast and analyze this set of renders.

The CLK-GTR Is A Dated Supercar

This supercar was a high-tech car back in the ‘90s. It also had power that is world-class even by modern standards thanks to its AMG-tuned 6.9-liter V12 engine that produced 604 hp and 572 lb-ft of torque. By today’s standards, this car wouldn’t be a top dog. But Prokop has given us a new CLK-GTR that would likely be the most sought-after supercar in the world if it went into production.

One aspect of the original CLK-GTR that a lot of enthusiasts disliked was the front end, which almost looked like a standard E-Class. No one will complain about the front of the new version looking like a standard Mercedes, though.

This new car has a sleek, one-piece, design at the front that is wide, low, and very aggressive. The headlights are U-shaped LEDs and complement the body style. This new CLK-GTR looks so aggressive that it might even startle you if you saw it in your rearview mirror.

The Artistic Side of The CLK-GTR

The side of this CLK-GTR is simply breathtaking with its low-profile and aerodynamic curves from front to back. It has a mix of sharp angles and soft curves that give it a truly artistic and futuristic feel. The greenhouse is modest and blends into the rear engine hood. The back end of the original wasn’t a work of art, but in this example, the whole rear end of the car curves in a soft arc and contains lights, a spoiler, and a diffuser worthy of a modern supercar.

A CLK-GTR would set you back in the ballpark of $8.5 million now. A new version would be cheaper, but would still rival the price of a Bugatti Chiron SS 300+. It would also need to rival the 300+ for power, so perhaps an upgraded version of the AMG-One’s powertrain with 1,800 hp could do this fantasy supercar justice.

Back in 1997 Mercedes-Benz and AMG manufactured this race car to compete in the FIA GT Championships. Mercedes-Benz produced it as a race car but due to the rules of the championships, a street car also had to exist. And thus, the Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Straßenversion (German for Street Version) was born. The road-legal car shared many components of the original race car which made it a powerful and much sought-after supercar.
