The new Supra for 2022 is almost ready for release and with this new model, Toyota has made a few tweaks and design updates to keep the Supra fresh for the coming years. However, on the surface, the Supra is largely similar to models from the past and Toyota has decided to keep this fan-favorite closer to the previous model, which could possibly be down to the immense popularity upon its release.

It can be argued that the Supra follows the if it ain't broke, don't fix it mantra. Either way, with the new updates and new special edition model, the 2022 Toyota Supra is better than ever, and below are some things we now know about this updated JDM legend.

The most notable aspect of the new and improved Supra for 2022 is the A91-CF Edition. This model will be very exclusive and is limited to a relatively tiny 600 units, making for a rare and special edition car indeed.

No prizes here for guessing what CF stands for on this special edition A91. Yes, this new Supra may be laden with copious amounts of carbon fiber, but it is as functional as it is visually striking. The main differences over standard models include the carbon fiber body kit with a rear spoiler, new matte black 19-inch wheels, and a sporty red and black interior. These flashy new upgrades make the Supra more aerodynamic and therefore grip better for high-speed track driving.

9 Fuel Economy

Obviously, when it comes to fuel economy, a general rule of thumb is that less power makes for better fuel efficiency. This is the case for the new Supra too, as of the available engines, the four-cylinder turbocharged option seems best for saving on fuel costs.

This engine gives the Supra EPA ratings of 25 mpg for city driving and 32 mpg for highway driving. The 3.0 Supra by comparison has ratings of 22 mpg for in the city and 30 mpg for on the highway. Interestingly, this car is more fuel-efficient than both the rival Porsche Cayman GTS, and BMW M2.

8 Safety And Driver Assistance

Thankfully, Toyota has opted to add a great deal of driver safety and assistance features to the new Supra. Even better, most of these features are available across all versions of the Supra, meaning a huge amount comes as standard, which is always appreciated.

These features include automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. Additional features such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring are available with the optional driver's assist package.

The interior of the Supra at standard includes black leather sport seats and Alcántara highlights, along with dashes of red stitching throughout. For anyone interested in a slight upgrade, red seating is available on the 3.0-liter model Supra.

It should be noted, however, that there hasn't necessarily been a huge update to the Supra's interior on the newest model, although given that the interior was fine before, this shouldn't be an issue to any potential customers. Everything is well-built with good quality materials and intelligently laid out to ensure a pleasant driving experience.

6 Engine

Now for the most exciting part, the 2022 Supra's engine and the available options. The standard engine comes in the form of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder as mention earlier. This produces a decent 255 hp however, for those looking for a little more performance, the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six may be more what you're looking for.

This engine produces a relatively large 382 hp, and this allows for the Supra to achieve a 0-60 mph time in below 4 seconds and reach 100 mph in under 10 seconds. Again, these times make it a clear rival for the M2 and Cayman GTS.

5 Infotainment And Tech

In true Japanese fashion, Toyota has included a great deal of tech in the new Supra. There's an included 8.8-inch touchscreen and again, any fans of BMW's latest iDrive system interface should be well acquainted. Standard navigation is also included along with Apple CarPlay capability however interestingly, Android Auto isn't actually anywhere to be seen. Heated seats are also available as standard on the 2022 Supra.

Some optional features include a 12-speaker JBL audio system, as well as an available wireless charging pad for your smartphone. If you opt out of the JBL system, a standard 10-speaker audio system is what you'll otherwise have.

4 Storage

The cabin of the Supra is sporty to say the least. It is relatively small given the nature of the car with its size and shape, and any past BMW Z4 drivers should feel an odd sense of familiarity with the Supra given that these cars both share a basic platform and powertrain.

Cargo space is limited, but again, the shape and size of the vehicle need to be taken into consideration for any potential buyers. However, having said this, there is plenty of space for necessities like the weekly grocery shop and basic luggage for weekends away.

3 Drivetrain And Transmission

To delve into the performance of the new Supra a little more, we can take a look at the drivetrain and transmission. As standard, every Supra model comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission as well as rear-wheel drive.

However, potential buyers may be disappointed to find that the new Supra doesn't have an available manual transmission option. Please bear in mind however that although there isn't one now, that doesn't mean to say there won't be one added in the future. Like past models and comparable ones such as the GT86, the steering should be accurate and direct enough for fairly easy driving even at high speed and with some aggression typical of Toyota's sports cars.

2 Pricing

Unfortunately, as of right now, Toyota hasn’t officially announced a release date for the new Supra, although a mid to late 2021 release is expected. This also means we'll have to utilize some educated guessing for the price.

Using comparable vehicles from Porsche, BMW, and Audi as well as pricing for the currently available models, the pricing for the 2022 Supra should fall between $40,000 and $60,000. Given that there haven't been any monumental changes and just a few tweaks to the current model, it's a fair assumption that the 2022 model should line up with current Supra pricing.

1 Exterior Styling

The exterior styling for the Supra is as good as ever, however, unless you're one of the lucky few 600 who manages to get their hands on the aforementioned CF edition, you won't be noticing a whole load of difference as far as visuals go.

It seems Toyota didn't want to overhaul the Supra too much and have stuck with the tried and tested looks of previous versions. However, this isn't a bad thing as the Supra is far from outdated and still looks great as we're sure you can agree with the same sleek lines and small flourishes that throw back to Supras from the past.
