The introduction of the next generation Toyota Land Cruiser is just around the corner, according to reports from BestCarWeb. It’s been over a decade since the most recent generation hit the market. The report specifies a number of alleged details about the forthcoming vehicle, which is set to debut in August and will come with hybrid power albeit without the tried and true V-8 for which it's always been known.

Toyota’s Hybrid Power Push

All the news out of Toyota is pointing towards the company increasing its ever burgeoning portfolio of hybrid offerings. Earlier this month it was reported that the Japanese automaker would be reviving the Venza nameplate for a pure-hybrid vehicle and that the next-generation Sienna will be a hybrid as well. So the thought of the Land Cruiser taking similar steps seems to make sense. But will it still be a Land Cruiser?

The days of the Land Cruiser's V8 are expected to come to an end if these new reports are to be believed. In place of the old V-8 is expected to be a 3.5-liter V6 hybridized powertrain that makes 295 horsepower (220 kilowatts) and 262 pound-feet (356 Newton-meters) of torque.

The overall update is expected to see the next generation Land Cruiser to adopt Toyota’s TNGA platform that already underpins a variety of the company’s newest models. It will retain the model’s ladder-frame structure, and the new platform is expected to help reduce weight, offsetting the loss of power.
