The 2024 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck is set to offer quite the redesign. That is thanks to some leaks spotted by the Tacoma4G forums recently. These revealed the design patents for the new Tacoma coming from a patent registration that filed in Brazil. The patents have revealed a refreshed and impressive design for the Tacoma. Toyota are updating the model massively over its current rendition. This design is modern and fresh, something that might worry the likes of Ford and GM when it comes to their own designs.

This 2024 Toyota Tacoma redesign is remarkably similar to the 2024 Tacoma EV concept that Toyota revealed a year or so ago. Its rugged looks match that of the concept, save for the lack of grille on the EV version. Toyota has really worked hard on this latest Tacoma.

How Radical Is The 2024 Tacoma Redesign?

Based on the patent images, the 2024 Tacoma will be quite different. It visibly just looks fresher and more in-line with Toyota’s other off-roaders. Design cues from the Tundra such as the slats under the headlights also appear. Ford and GM will certainly be looking over their shoulder a bit. The latest Tacoma should be a very capable truck despite its smaller size to their main offerings. The Tacoma will have the likes of the Ford Ranger, Maverick and Colorado in its sights. At first glance, the truck in the patent image looks extremely similar to the Tacoma EV concept Toyota revealed in 2022.

In terms of those trucks, they don’t look like they will offer up quite the same refreshing design as the Tacoma. The fact that the new TNGA-F platform is also highly likely to feature on the 2024 Tacoma should also worry its rivals. It’s a platform that has already proven itself on the Toyota Sequoia and the Land Cruiser LC300.

Patent Images Match The 2024 Tacoma EV Concept

The patent images certainly answer the question regarding if the new Tacoma for 2024 will have a redesign. The truck that some call the baby Tundra has a much more pronounced and aggressive stance. The bigger grille is in line with a lot of the refreshed, large Toyota vehicles. Already, its looking like the new Tacoma is worth the wait. The 2024 Tacoma looks to feature a more rugged, mesh pattern grille, while bigger tires look like they are on offer too. With the current Tacoma already good off-road, the new version could be even better.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma will be smaller than the likes of the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado. But that also means it will be cheaper than those two as well. Even so, this new truck looks plenty big enough. The quarter panels and fenders are bigger to accommodate the new, larger tires while it looks like we also have plenty of ground clearance. The closeness to the Tacoma EV concept with the patent images very much indicate that this might be the real deal when it comes to the 2024 Tacoma redesign.

Will The 2024 Tacoma Feature A Hybrid Version?

Currently, we are waiting official word on whether the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will have a hybrid engine option. But with Toyota hoping to have a hybrid option available for every model by 2025, its highly likely the 2024 Tacoma will have that. Outlets like The Fast Lane Truck have stated that a hybrid option will be one of two engine options available for the 2024 Tacoma. These on top of the electric version that we should also get at the same time. So consumers will have plenty of options available when the truck comes out.

In terms of the actual engine options, we haven’t got firm news yet on that. But its likely that the Hybrid Max from the new and game-changing Toyota Crown will appear, a hybrid version of the turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four engine. The current 3.5-liter V6 powertrain is likely to disappear from the Tacoma’s lineup entirely. Its little surprise, as Toyota looks to make sure its latest Tacoma is modern both internally, externally and mechanically. In terms of the power, the hybrid powertrain also sees use in the Lexus RX 500h and produces 366 hp as well as 340 hp in the Crown. That gives us a rough ballpark for the Tacoma power figures.

Clearly, the new 2024 Tacoma is a truck worth getting excited about. It completely transforms the appearance of the Tacoma with the new redesign. Even the Tacoma EV concept looks fantastic, with the clean area where the grille would normally be. We know Toyota have a great reputation in the pickup truck world, with the current Tacoma still providing a good reliable performance for the consumer. So this 2024 Tacoma offering is likely to vastly improve on that and offer even more compared to its predecessor. The patent images hint at a very good-looking truck, with hopefully a lot of potential too.
