In recent years, Nissan is a brand that has been significantly impacted by the pandemic. Not only had sales reduced quite dramatically throughout 2020, but their CEO resigned in the midst of the issue. Thus, the Japanese multinational corporation was under quite some pressure.

As a result, any new release is in hope that it will help the brand make a comeback. For the 2022 model year, Nissan is due to release a new Frontier, of which, will come in two trims, namely the Pro-X and the Pro-4X. Its specification and overall look are quite similar to other rivals, such as the Volkswagen Amarok and the Ford Ranger.

On that note, let's take a look at how the 2022 Nissan Frontier will compare to its competition.

The 2022 Nissan Frontier Offers More Power Than Its Competitors

The all-new 2022 Nissan Frontier has seen an impressive engine upgrade from its predecessor in 2021. The new model features a 3.8-liter V6, which has a maximum output of 310 hp, which far exceeds the likes of the Ford Ranger, which offers a maximum of 270 hp from its 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 cylinder gas engine.

Nissan's rival brands seem to charge extra for the V6 engine, which might be able to match its horsepower. However, the 2022 Nissan Frontier offers all customers the V6 as a standard base engine.

Volkswagen's 2022 Amarok is even less powerful, which is due to its smaller engine. The Amarok is kitted out with a 2-liter TDI engine, which has up to 160 hp. Thus, Nissan wins by a mile when it comes to the power that can be enjoyed from its base model.

A Tough Look That Can Withstand Tough Terrains

As a mid-size pickup truck, you would expect the 2022 Nissan Frontier to be able to withstand tough terrains very well, and indeed it can. Not only does it boast a fierce and rugged exterior with a fierce grille as well as large wheels, but it features a great level of control no matter the terrain.

The new Nissan Frontier drives much more smoothly than its close rivals. This is with thanks to its impressive horsepower, which will smoothly glide the car across steep hills. Plus, it is fitted with an off-road-capable suspension, which includes an independent double-wishbone kit and twin-tube Bilstein shock absorbers. These make the ride smooth when driving across rocky or unstable terrains.

This isn't to say the Nissan's rivals do not have similar capabilities. As the Ford Ranger, Volkswagen Amarok, and Toyota Tacoma are all mid-size pickup trucks; they have been kitted out with mean suspensions too. For instance, the VW Amarok comes equipped with a front suspension lift and off-road twin-tube MTV dampers, which help the rider glide smoothly over uneven surfaces when you are off-roading. Nonetheless, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is a great pickup truck for those looking for comfort and safety when they are going off-road.

Will The 2022 Nissan Frontier Be More Expensive Than Its Rivals?

Nissan's new 2022 Frontier is more powerful and a great off-road pickup truck. However, it might not be your solution if you are looking for something affordable and competitive in pricing.

It is more than $650 more than the 2021 Frontier. Yet, it did see some great upgrades, so they could vouch for the increase in price. This makes the starting price of the 2022 Nissan Frontier $27,840, which is $1,000 more than the likes of the Toyota Tacoma.

Moreover, it is $2,500 more expensive than the likes of its close competition, the Ford Ranger. The higher price can be validated by the larger engine and more power. Yet, if you are looking for something more within budget and an average price of a mid-size pickup truck, then the Nissan coming in 2022 might not be your answer.

The higher price means that future models will likely get higher and higher. So, if you want to try one out before prices skyrocket (should they live up to the expectations), then now would be a good time to get one. Car prices are increasing every year, so the rival brands will soon catch up. However, Nissan still isn't the most affordable.

In our opinion, the price of the new 2022 Nissan Frontier can be justified by its upgrades. It offers a much larger and more capable engine from its base model than other brands. Yet, if you want one within budget, then you might want to opt for the likes of the Ranger or Tacoma. We do hope that the new Frontier will help the brand make a comeback. The pandemic took a toll on several brands, and Nissan is one that should be able to recoup itself, should the 2022 Frontier live up to expectations.
