Fans of the Nissan GT-R know that what was once one of the world's greatest track stars has got to be reaching the end of the line. In production since 2007, when the combination of a torquey, twin-turbocharged V6 paired to ATTESA all-wheel-drive was still new, the GT-R was a bombshell. Today, it's slipped down the ladder of high-performance vehicles significantly, despite special-edition versions like the NISMO trim package.

But one thing that everyone who follows GT-R news has anxiously awaited is the actual road-going version of the GT-R 50 concept that was unveiled in 2018. Working with Italdesign, Nissan planned to build a legit supercar variant and now, the first images of the production GT-R 50 by Italdesign cars have been released by Nissan.

A Limited Run

The images focus on a GT-R 50 as it undergoes some hard testing on the Tazio Nuvolari track in Italy. Under the surface, the standard GT-R's form shines through, but it's clear this is no ordinary example. The nose has been reworked, the canopy looks to have gained some additional aero lines and Gurney-style bubbles, and the rear end now resembles something more similar to a Rimac or Lotus. Meanwhile, the interior appears to have been built almost entirely out of Alcantara and carbon fiber.

The Final Countdown

After such a long wait, the GT-R 50 certainly looks the business—and comes with a price tag to match. The NISMO-tuned powerplant under the hood has been uprated to 710 horsepower, while the total production figure has been capped at 50 units. Future owners who have placed down payments have already begun configuring their cars, though a few build slots are apparently still available. Keep in mind, though, that the GT-R 50 by Italdesign starts around $1 million, or almost 10 times the cost of a standard GT-R's sticker.
