The current generation of the Nissan GT-R supercar killer has been in the market for around 14 years. While Nissan has yet to announce the successor to the "Godzilla" R35 GT-R, it has managed to keep Godzilla as appealing as possible by releasing new versions and trims from time to time. The 2022 model year sees the latest iteration of the street legal track car coming to life, along with the GT-R Nismo Special Edition.

GT-R Nismo Offers Unique Exterior Looks In Limited Numbers

Nissan will be selling a limited number of the GT-R Nismo Special Edition in selected markets including in home country Japan (October) and North America (fall). Just like its moniker says, the GT-R Nismo Special Edition isn't a typical GT-R Nismo, although the latter can't really be called ordinary. It's built to order, which means each example is built as order comes in, albeit in limited numbers.

Helping distinguish the GT-R Nismo Special Edition from its GT-R siblings are details including Nismo-exclusive Stealth Gray exterior finish, which is inspired by track tarmacs where GT-Rs have set records. The GT-R Nismo Special Edition also features a clear-coated carbon fiber hood (with visible carbon fiber weave) and the new Nissan logo on the trunk lid and wheel center caps.

Special Engine Handcrafted By Master Technicians

Making the GT-R Nismo Special Edition extra exclusive is the fact that its VR38DETT 3.8-liter V6 engine is backed by GT3 racecar-supplied turbochargers as well as high-precision, weight-balanced parts. Its piston rings, crankshaft, connecting rods, and valve gear components now have tighter tolerances, resulting in snappier engine revs as well as quicker turbo spooling.

Each 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 engine in the GT-R Nismo Special Edition – tuned to deliver 600 hp of max output and 481 lb-ft of peak torque – is handcrafted by its own takumi technicians. Once a master technician finish working on a Special Edition engine, the takumi will sign it via a special aluminum certification plate in a Special Edition-exclusive color.

As for its other features, the GT-R Nismo Special Edition rides a new edition-exclusive 20" RAYS forged aluminum-alloy wheels with red accents, thereby matching existing accents around the body. Visible through the wheels are massive Brembo calipers and carbon ceramic rotors measuring 410 mm on the front and 390 mm at the rear.
