Ford, you did it again! An amazing vehicle that we want, well… yesterday. The Fast Lane Truck YouTube channel is here to show us not what an amazing vehicle the all-new Ford Lightning EV pickup truck is, but also how well it can tow. Normally, you would think an EV towing would drain the batteries incredibly quickly, but this, according to our presenter, is not the case.

Clean Slate

Our presenter ponders the question. If you were Ford, and you had the chance to build an electric truck with a clean slate, what would you build? The answer, our host believes, is quite clearly to continue on the best-selling truck's platform — the F-150. So, from the ashes arises a new Phoenix — the F-150 Lightning.

However, what our presenter's concern is with, far above any other topic, can it keep up with workloads and towing? After all, it is a work truck. The Lightning he is using will be towing a large fully electric boat. Ford claims the truck can tow seven to ten thousand lbs, depending on the configuration.

The first tow begins at the 5:15 mark in the video after our host has shown us all of the cool technological features on the Lightning, including how to get the vehicle into tow mode which can factor in different conditions such as topography, temperature, weather, road surface and wind into their algorithms to give the driver a more accurate reading on range left on the charge.

It isn't long before our host turns into a gearhead and tries a 0-60 while towing. Under normal circumstances, we're told that the F-150 Lightning can achieve 60 mph in just under four seconds. While towing a large boat, our presenter manages a time of 9.39 seconds. That is still faster than a 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE, which does a 0-60 in 10.5 seconds! So, yes, the truck can tow 10,000 lbs quite easily.

The Verdict

Our presenter finishes the video with his take on the Lightning and whether it can tow. Yes, it can tow quite well, he tells us. Obviously, the range takes a huge hit, but that was always an expectation. He says the consumer is now left with the choice of the traditional ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) F-150 where you will always have gas stations and not have to worry, or if you are feeling adventurous, the new EV (Electric Vehicle) F-150 will make towing up to 10,000 lbs very easy. The choice is yours, which would you take?
