With so many new EVs and electric-focused startups on the market, the competition in the automotive industry is becoming fierce. While some car manufacturers are announcing to switch to all-electric production by (or around) 2030, others are already leading the way. Surely, Tesla is at the top of the list, but not without admirable competition.

Polestar is one of the names that recently started to climb the ladder and attract more attention. Although existing since 1996, Polestar bloomed after Volvo acquired it in 2015 from Polestar Racing. Now, it serves as Volvo's EV division that offers high-end tech and modern solutions for the automotive world, with record sales and market growth in the first four months of 2022. The Polestar 2 and the Polestar 3 actually stand at the forefront of the Polestar lineup and compete with Tesla straight on.

Just recently, Polestar also teased a gorgeous roadster concept car we classified as perfect for production. Initially, there was little hope the Polestar O2 concept car would reach the mass market, but now, it seems the odds are changing, as the CEO himself expressed the wish to see the O2 on the road.

What We Know So Far About The Polestar O2 Concept Car

The Polestar O2 Concept Car arrived as a representation of what the all-electric car brand from Sweden thinks the sports roadsters of the future should look like, and we love it. It simply looks amazing and promises great performance. With the bonded aluminum platform having excellent rigidity and dynamics, the O2 clearly focuses on handling and the overall driving pleasure.

In fact, this roadster blends together the excitement of open-top driving and electric mobility, promising a new experience for modern drivers. A distinctive design also works in favor of performance. Along with being incredibly stylish with its sleek and intimidating but not aggressive stance, the O2 ensures exceptional aerodynamics and stability on the road.

We also love that the Polestar O2 focuses on sustainability. The mono-material interior uses a single material for different components. In this case, it's the recycled polyester that reduces both waste and vehicle weight. How great is that?

The Polestar O2 Concept Car gives only a glimpse of the interior tech. Based on the elegant styling and a big center display, we have no doubts some serious technology will get included. But above other things, we're excited about an autonomous cinematic drone integrated behind the rear seats of the Polestar O2. The concept drone is aimed at following the car during rides and recording its performance. It should do so autonomously at a maximum speed of 90 km/h.

If the Polestar O2 reaches production, we're really curious whether the drone will stay with the road-going car. We also can't wait to discover the powertrain behind the roadster. According to the Polestar CEO, the team of engineers behind the O2 development may build it independently. RELATED: Here’s Everything We Know About The Polestar 3 Electric SUV

As mentioned, we haven't had a lot of hope the Polestar O2 would reach production after its announcement earlier this year. In the past, we've seen many outstanding concepts worthy of the real world presented to the public, but most of them remained unfinished. Fortunately, it seems the same thing won't happen with the Polestar O2.

Thomas Ingenlath, the CEO of Polestar, recently told TopGear that his personal ambition is to make the O2 a production car (yay, go Polestar!). But he also highlighted that things are not as easy as they seem. Relying solely on power as a distinctive characteristic is not enough, and the CEO shared that the team plans to do more with the car to make it competitive and worthy of the modern customer:

“Polestar O2 is the hero car for our brand. It opens the door to our secret chamber of future potential. This is a taste of what we can design and engineer with the talent and technology we have in-house. It looks incredible, and being able to lower the roof and not hear an engine promises a superb sensation.”

As far as we're concerned, the Polestar O2 Concept Car already looks promising. With some extra work for production, the roadster will undoubtedly be a beautiful and highly-capable car – and an object of everyone's desires (which is already partly true).

Sadly, we don't know any specifics about when the production will start, how many O2 units will come from factory lines, and how much one roadster will cost. We'll have to wait for an official announcement from Polestar for more details. Until then, we'll keep our hopes up and notify you about other exciting news incoming from Polestar.
