When it comes to adaptability among Lamborghinis, it's tough to beat the Huracan. A terror on high-speed ovals and circuit tracks and as close to street legal optics that a Lambo can get, the Huracan has been described as the most versatile of its peers. And there's nothing wrong with taking a Huracan to a drag strip and doing the quarter-mile in 7.4 seconds, either. But how would it do in more offroad terrain. Well, in a video released Wednesday, that's what the boys at YouTube channel B Is For Build are hoping to find out soon as they build an exocage for one Lambo they have in the shop.

Lambo Cage Mockup Made From PVC Pipe

First, the BIFB folks created a mockup of the frame out of PVC piping and wrapped a plastic skin to get a facsimile of what the finished Lambo would look like. After taking a bunch of pictures, they removed the skin and replaced the PVC with more durable steel.

Once the cage build was done, BIFB head honcho Chris scouts the structure for reinforcement points that will need to be welded to keep the thing solid. But he couldn't resist taking a moment to admire the handiwork. "We are ecstatic about how it looks, it's very, very strong," he said. "I'm so happy about how this is turning out. It looks great, it's functional."

Next up, Chris and his sidekick Oscar are about to get the carbon-fiber, trofeo-styled hood into place (trofeo being Italian for trophy—appropriate for a Lambo). But unlike a conventional Huracan hood, which angles downward towards the sides of the car, Chris wants them to slope upward to fit the exoskeleton. He's played with the design several times, using cardboard cutouts and tracing those patterns onto the hood material.

"Each piece is kind of floppy," said Chris, still optimistic that his hood design will work out. "But once you have a bunch of complex angles and you tack them all together, it actually gets really strong and it'll hold its own shape."

After a couple of days, Oscar's got the frame modified, including the addition of rails over the fenders, while Chris continues to build that custom hood. After that is a matter of putting the rest of the steel on to match the skin facsimile they created earlier. "

"It's looking good, so I really think it's going to work," said Chris.

The Huracan remod process continues.
