The 2022 Ram 1500 Crew Cab has earned the title of being a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick, designating the third time the Ram pickup truck has earned the award. Stellantis announced in a press release that the rating applies to models that come equipped with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technology and adaptive (LED) projector headlamps with high-beam assist. The truck previously won in 2020 and 2021.

Mike Koval Jr, head of the Ram brand, stated that: “The Ram 1500 Crew Cab’s winning streak underlines our ongoing pledge to deliver exceptional vehicle safety... Our customers use their trucks to provide for their families or help their communities. We want them to do so, safely.”

Beginning in 2020, the IIHS revised their ratings system to place greater importance on lighting and automatic braking technologies. Several Ram trim levels, including the Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited 10th Anniversary and TRX offer these features as standard equipment. All these trim levels also earned a "superior" rating, the highest level granted by the IIHS in these types of ratings.

Advanced cameras and radar sensors determine if a collision with another vehicle is imminent, at which point the system will alert the driver. If the driver fails to take action to slow the vehicle, the system automatically deploys the brakes to avoid an accident or, at the very least, minimize potential injury. The IIHS put the Ram pickup through several different front crash tests as well as tests for the sides, rear and a rollover. In each test, the 2022 Ram 1500 Crew Cab earned the highest possible score.

Ram has undergone significant changes over the last several years, becoming its own brand after splitting off from Dodge in 2009. The brand focuses exclusively on light and heavy duty pickup trucks, commercial vehicles and cargo vans. Ram additionally won the top spot in J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study in 2021, which tracks the overall performance of new vehicles for the first three months of ownership. The changes at Ram and particular focus of the brand appear to be winning over truck buyers, as the Ram truck family beat out its most frequent top competitor, the Chevrolet Silverado, to secure the #2 spot in sales for 2021 in the United States following the Ford F-Series.
