Occasionally on a car auction site, something quite rare and pretty special can crop up. Be it a limited edition high-performance car, or perhaps even a prototype that was only ever built in small quantities. Well, on German auction site Schaltkulisse, is a real gem of a car. This is one of just three Bugatti EB112’s in existence, and this one was the only one partially built in the Bugatti factory.

The Story Behind The EB112

The story of the EB112 is quite something. The inspiration for the design came from the 57 SC Atlantic’s spine, as well as other cars from the 1920s, such as the Tippo 55 2-door. Bugatti was also buoyed by the success of the frankly awesome EB110. The company used that know-how to produce the fastest saloon on the market. The EB112 has a naturally aspirated, 6.0-liter 60 valve V12 engine that produces around 450 hp. For the best weight distribution, the engine is front-mid positioned, and that power gets sent to the road thanks to a six-speed manual transmission. Best of all, the car is four-wheel drive as well. The EB112 has a remarkable 0-100 km/h time of just 4.3 seconds.

This particular EB112 is chassis #39002. The car itself had debuted at the 1993 Geneva Motorshow, but only one of the trio ever made, #39001, was in existence before the company had gone bust. That car was then finished by Italdesign who still own the car. Chassis #39002 and #39003 were then acquired by Gildo Pallanca Pastor, and the Monaco Racing Team finished both cars. The latter of the two is still part of Pastor’s personal collection. Chassis #39002, which is up for sale, is the only one that saw its assembly started at the Bugatti factory.

The order for this EB112 was made in April 1993 by Swiss Bugatti importer Chevalley. Finished in dark anthracite, then delivered in February 2000 and has finally registered in Geneva since February 2003. The car is in full running condition, has its original 6.0-liter V12 engine and is showing just 3,900 km on the clock, so it is virtually brand new and barely ran in. It's believed that Chevalley has been its only owner, and there is little to no wear on any of the interior components and furnishings. This is the chance to own a bit of history, and to own a car that could have become the future of Bugatti.
