For the past few months, Opel has been teasing something special. The German based company teased their Manta ElektroMOD, in effect a restomod from a classic Opel Manta, which takes the whole restomod concept to a new level. It is a car that was launched over 50 years ago, powered then by a four-cylinder gas engine. Now, after all the teasing, Opel has fully unveiled their new creation, bringing the best of retro, classic styling together with modern, renewable propulsion and to become the first electric MOD in the history of the Germany company.

Opel Manta ElektroMOD: A Blend Of Traditional And Modern

Opel say that the car is a blend of tradition with state-of-the-art. The Manta comes equipped with the latest Opel technologies such as LED lights, the unique Pixel-Vizor and a pure panel cockpit. The company has finally given us some performance figures too, the Opel coming with a 108 kW or 147 hp motor, with manual transmission plus rear-wheel drive. The driver has an option of either shifting through the four-speed transmission manually, or engaging fourth gear and just driving automatically.

The new Opel face helps to further bring the Manta into the present day. Gone is the traditional grille associated with gasoline powered cars and in comes the Opel Vizor, that can communicate with its environment with messages such as “My German heart has been ELEKTRified”. Cooling for the batteries will be via a smaller grille underneath the license plate. The Manta looks stunning in its Neon Yellow paintwork that matches the recently updated Opel CI, and the wheels are incredibly modern. They are specially designed 17-inch light alloy wheels from Ronal, and the chrome fender trims of the original Manta have disappeared.

Refreshed Interior Features Modern Technologies

The interior has been refreshed too, with Opel digital technology such as widescreen displays and a Bluetooth box from Marshall. The widescreen technology is the same Opel Pure Panel tech found in the company’s production Mokka. With so many electric car designs being simply too dull to excite anyone into buying them, this is a refreshingly bold statement from Opel, and something truly unique that should be applauded. This is sadly just a one-off vehicle, but we are certain that there are going to be many of you who wish this could be put into production.
