There is no getting around the fact that 2020 will be remembered in the history books as one of the worst years in recent history. Unfortunately, you probably don't need a refresher on why that is the case. While it may all seem like doom and gloom, the year 2020 also will serve as another (more positive) pivotal marker: The year everyone began to appreciate the outdoors.

2020 was truly the beginning for many new outdoor enthusiasts, as they now had ample time to sample various outdoor activities. Compared to figures from 2019, bicycle sales rose 63%, hiking increased by over 170%, and engagement in camping went up 21%. Additionally, because of Instagram and the pandemic, the activity known as overlanding also saw a massive boom in popularity.

Let's take a look at the first name in extreme camping adventures: Opus.

The Popularity Of Campers

For those who don't know, overlanding is an activity in which you bring your vehicle (usually modded in some way) to remote places and pretty much just explore. Depending on where you go, your adventure could last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. You may now be starting to see how this activity can seem quite appealing during a time when the term social distancing is at its peak.

Now, when you engage in overlanding for any extended amount of time, you'll obviously need a place to sleep. Most people tend to choose the classic tent or the increasingly popular rooftop tent; however, there is a third option: A camper.

Unfortunately, most peoples' typical idea of a camper probably won't cut the mustard when it comes to traversing rough terrain. Thankfully though, there is a company by the name of Opus that has already thought of that.

They're As Tough As the Terrain You'll Be Navigating

Just take one look at an Opus off-road camper and you'll see why the company advertises itself as "tough luxury" for the masses. The entire point of their tow-along campers are to allow its consumers to bring the comforts of home anywhere, no matter how harsh the conditions get.

Currently, the overlanding specialists' lineup is made up of four off-road models, including the: OP Light, OP 2, Op 4, and the extravagant OP 15. The models range in price from $18,999 to $45,000.

Each trim is designed to support you for a specific number of days. For example, the lowest-end model (Op Light) can be packed with enough supplies to last you comfortably for two days on your own. Conversely, the Op 4 is designed to allow you to be self-sufficient for up to 4 days.

All of their models provide exceptional ground clearance and come equipped with rugged off-road capable tires. Additionally, each trailer comes with "beefed up" independent suspension, twin shock absorbers, front rock guards, a 360-degree capable hitch, under-body armor, a galvanized steel chassis, and an axel-less wheel set up. Together, these factors allow the trailer to traverse rough terrain without being damaged.

Extremely Well Equipped For All Of Your Adventures

Opus campers are designed to keep you well sustained throughout your venture into the wilderness. While each model is slightly different from one another, there are convenient features that are equipped with each and every variant. Such attributes include a 20lb propane holder/tank, 20-gallon water tank with 12V pump, lights, air pump (for pop-up canopy), solar panels, and plenty of exterior compartments for storage.

The most spectacular feature included with all of Opus' campers is the slide-out kitchen. A slab of metal, which features all of the kitchen conveniences you could ever want, can be slid in and out of the side of the camper. Included is a 4 burner stove, sink, fridge, freezer, food/supply storage, and even a table for prep work. This is by far one of the coolest features of these off-road ready mobile homes.

Brutish, But Also Luxurious

Like that of all things automotive, the features inside will largely depend on how much money you're willing to spend and Opus is no exception. If you pay around $20,000 for the OP Light, you'll get a queen-sized bed, table, leatherette "club lounge," 12V outlets, a stereo, and speakers. Additionally, all pop-up style Opus campers only require the push of a button to inflate the living quarters. Once erected, you'll find that a number of operable windows are at your disposal for ventilation purposes.

The OP 15's price starts at about $45,000 and is similar to pop-up campers throughout. That is except for the interior and its sheer size. In addition to all of the things included within the lesser models, the OP 15 gets a king bed, twin bunk beds, bamboo dresser and table, a dining area, a pantry, and even an indoor bathroom complete with a sink shower, and toilet. This truly is the epitome of off-road luxury.
