The National Historic Vehicle Register features some of the United States' most coveted and rarest cars. They're often not only cars that we all want to drive, but ones that are unique in the world. The Register only came around in 2014, and it exists so that future generations can remember the past so that it's not forgotten. And now, they have added two new vehicles to that list. One is a 1921 Duesenberg, the very first sold to the public. And the second is an original Hemi-powered 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE.

Cars With Unique Stories

Each car has its own story. The Duesenberg was the first car to have a straight-eight engine, and we know of the family that owned the car. However, we are here to look at the Challenger. But if you want to learn more about the Duesenberg, the video above goes into greater detail. The Challenger, however, is the 28th car to be added to the Register. It's an incredibly rare and original car and the Hemi is the real focus here.

Original Hemi’s are indeed very, very rare. So for this car to exist, it's incredible. And it has an amazing family story too. Its original owner was Godfrey Qualls, a Green Beret, Purple Heart recipient, and a Police Officer. But also, an amazing Detroit street racer. In the Hemi. The Challenger became a legend, appearing fleetingly, and crushing all before it.

Dodge celebrates 50 years of the Challenger in 2020. So to be able to commemorate that with this incredible survivor, and induct it into the National Historic Vehicle Register is perhaps the best way to do so. And it is now owned by the son of Godfrey Qualls, Gregory. His father was his hero, and he was in awe of his father's legendary street racing exploits. And forevermore, this car will remain a part of that family.
