A Dodge Challenger 392 Scat Pack takes on a 1967 Coronet R/T Hemi in a drag race and as most people would expect, it is a pretty intense race. Although the Coronet is decades older than the Challenger, the drag race on the Cars and Zebras YouTube channel show just how capable it is in its old age against a 2021 muscle car.

Is It A Fair Race?

Some might suggest that racing two muscle cars that are over 50 years apart in age is unfair, especially as the 1967 Coronet looks like a grandma car. However, Coronet fans will know how well the R/T Hemi models can stand up for themselves, thanks to the 1967 Coronet R/T Hemi's 426 cubic inch V8 engine with a compression ratio of 10.25:1, which can boast an immense 425 horsepower.

Surprisingly, the first and original owner of the 1967 Coronet R/T Hemi is still the owner today due to their love for drag racing. The ride still owns its original TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission, which makes it more consistent on the drag strip, as well as one of only 162 models made with this kit.

Moreover, the Dodge Challenger 392 Scat Pack is a 2021 muscle car. This ride is a beast that is kit out with a 392 cubic inch Hemi V8 engine and a compression ratio of 10.9:1. It can put out 485 horsepower, which is quite a lot more powerful than the Coronet. Hence, we wonder if this race is fair.

It Might Be Old, But It's Not Slow

Although the Challenger 392 appears like a beast and the Coronet is pretty quaint, that doesn't justify the performance abilities of the cars. Where the Challenger can offer more net horsepower, the 1967 Coronet R/T Hemi soon gets going and flies down the drag strip.

The Coronet certainly is not slow. It leaves the Challenger far behind and crosses the quarter-mile line in just 11.01 seconds at a top speed of 125.98 mph. This outshines the Challenger's performance, which offers a time of 11.95 seconds, which is almost a whole second slower. The Challenger hits a top speed of 116.91 mph and just proves that no matter the age of a muscle car, it can outshine newbies.

Overall, it was a surprising result and an exhilarating race from the modern-day Challenger and the old-school Coronet. The Coronet R/T Hemi must feel great for proving the assumptions wrong.
