It doesn’t seem that long ago that Koenigsegg blew our minds with the news they were launching the incredible CC850. This was the latest car to come from the famed Swedish supercar manufacturers, and what makes it all the more remarkable is that this is set to become the most powerful and fastest car with a manual transmission in the world. The company said that just 50 would get produced, as they celebrate 20 years of supercar production and the 50th birthday of founder Christian von Koenigsegg.

However, the company perhaps wasn’t prepared for the demand for their latest offering. It now seems like 50 was an incredibly low number for such an eye-wateringly good-looking car and one that is also a technical marvel too. The demand registered for the car is so great that a lot of the loyal Koenigsegg customers would miss out on the new machine. As a result, Koenigsegg have now announced that another 20 are being made to complement the 50 that the company announced a week ago, so more Koenigsegg customers can enjoy this epic car.

What Makes The CC850 So Good

Of course, the highlight of the car is its incredible manual transmission. This epic machine comes with a stick shifter, handling over 1,000 hp. The lightweight transmission is of course operated via a clutch, that also actuates the hydraulics for said clutch. The shifter mechanism itself is in direct connection with both the clutch and the transmission, and all of them are neatly synchronized. This communicates the feeling a of a true, manual driving experience through the gated shifter which in itself is a work of art. Of course, that isn’t all that we are very excited about.

To power this epic machine down the road is a twin-turbo V8 engine that produces a whopping 1,185 hp. Now that might be less than some of the CC850’s siblings, remember that this power will be handled by us, with our left foot and a proper stick shift. The decrease in the power output comes from the need to eliminate turbo lag, to ensure that there is no sudden jump in speed as we take our hand off the steering wheel to change gears. A lot of thought has gone into the operating procedure for this new supercar.

Coping With Demand For The CC850

Koenigsegg sent out a press release regarding the huge demand for their epic new car. It states that they became aware quite quickly that the run of 50, while a good, round number, was too limited to deal with the demand people had for the car. And as we mentioned, many loyal customers of the company would sadly lose out on an amazing new machine. So, they asked several of their long-term clients who signed up early for the car on what their view was on increasing the production number to meet the customers appetite’s.

Koenigsegg said the response was positive, and thus they were happy to announce that another 20 will be made to create 70 production cars in total. The first 50 celebrate Mr Koenigsegg’s birthday while the new 20 help to mark 20 years of Koenigsegg production. Asking their customers if it is okay to increase demand was a kind gesture, especially as it was sold as a hyper exclusive car with just 50 units in total. This means there are no surprises to those who signed up, and its great loyalty from the company itself to those who have supported it over the years.

Comments From Christian von Koenigsegg

Mr Koenigsegg himself had some comments to add. He said “The response to the CC850 is overwhelming. Producing an additional 20 on top of the planned 50 CC850s is still not even close to demand, but it gives us the chance to consider the brand loyalists to a larger degree, while also welcoming a small portion of new owners,” says Christian von Koenigsegg. He goes on to say ”Clearly, we struck a chord with the connoisseurs and the fans by blending our roots with novel thinking and a timeless design that stands apart from the rest. We are humbled and grateful for the response and will do our outmost to exceed expectations.”

The fact demand is so high for this car shows the amount of love there is out there for the company and its products. Koenigsegg has always presented itself as being receptive to the needs of its customers, and they clearly strive to provide the best supercars on the market, and there is an argument to say that they do. The engineering mastery that has gone into the new CC850 is perhaps only rivaled by the likes of the Bugatti Veyron and the original holy trinity of hypercars. We can’t wait to see what the CC850 can do out on track.
