Independent sports car manufacturer Panoz has teamed up with Feynlab to allow the former to use the latter's Self-Heal Plus paint coating on all new vehicles.

According to MSN.com, this cool, almost science-fiction-like paint will heal swirl marks and shallow scratches when exposed to heat. This will allow scuffs to come out keeping the expensive sports cars in pristine condition, the cheapest model Panoz makes is the Esperante Spyder which goes for $159,000. Deeper scratches, will probably not be fixed by this memory based polymer.

Those worried that the paint won't work in colder climates need not fear either— the paint can reform over the scratch simply by being exposed to heat from a hairdryer. While this product is mostly for those that want to keep their vehicles in showroom shape, it would actually be awesome if one of the Big Three or other major car manufacturers utilized this product on their more premium cars. This is something buyers will certainly desire on their high-end purchases, even if they only use their vehicle to get to and from work. It certainly has applications for cars typically driven by the better off such as BMWs, Mercedes-Benz or even Cadillacs.

Panoz was founded in 1989 and has competed in some of the most prestigious race series around the world since 1997. They competed in Le Mans, Indy Racing League, and Champ Car among others. The company even owns the track Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. The company even at one time owned Mosport International Raceway, which was sold in 2011 and now is known as Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

It will be interesting to see how Panoz is able to use the self-healing paint technology in its future cars, and if it actually works as intended. If it does, we might just be looking at the future of paint technology in all vehicles going forward. For now, it's a novel concept that could take off in the future and impact your next purchase.
