Some people wonder where cars all come from before automotive shows and events, as well as where they all go once the sun sets. Freddie Atkins of YouTube channel TheTFJJ was in the right place at the right time during a recent Concours de Elegance in Switzerland, managing to catch a glimpse of participating modern and classic cars sitting idle in a nearby car park.

A Concours De Elegance On Ice

Freddie was one of those in attendance at the recently concluded International Concours de Elegance St. Moritz (ICE St. Moritz) in Switzerland. This event happens annually since two decades ago, although organizers had to cancel the ICE St. Moritz for two years — in 2020 and 2021 — due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. After the two-year hiatus, the ICE St. Moritz pushed through on February 26.

The ICE St. Moritz takes place over the frozen Lake of St. Moritz, which is why organizers schedule this Concours de Elegance every February. The frozen lake serves as the playground for the cars, and it presents quite a challenge since snow and ice necessarily don’t provide traction. Nonetheless, the scene of classic cars from different eras sliding over the slippery lake surface is a thrilling sight.

Important And Ultra-Expensive Cars In Attendance

Organizers had confirmed that around 45 cars took part in the ICE St. Moritz 2022. These include a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB, one of only four long-nose alloy bodied 275 GTBs; the 1968 Lamborghini Miura that starred in the opening scene of the 1969 movie Italian Job; the rally-legend 1967 Morris Mini Cooper S ex Works; a 1953 Jaguar C Type; and a 1939 Maserati 4CL.

Around six single-seaters, eight famous barchettas of the 1950s, 10 road racing cars and a number of classic cars from famous movies took part in the ICE St. Moritz 2022. Normally, that would present a problem to the organizers, since they would need to find a great place to park these ultra-expensive and ultra-important cars. Organizers need to have a place where they can properly protect these cars from the elements.

Sheltering Ultra-Expensive Cars From Snow And Ice

Event organizers didn’t need to worry since the lake of St. Moritz has sheltered parking spaces. The cars in the YouTube video found a temporary home at Parkhaus Serletta, a multi-level sheltered parking area beside the lake. Among the cars that Freddie spotted were a $75 million Ferrari 250 GTO, a $30 million Ferrari 250 California Spider and a $15 million Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta.
