1965 Mustang

via Wikipedia

The first-generation Ford Mustang was manufactured by Ford from 1964 until 1973, creating the new class of cars known as the pony car, an affordable, compact, and stylized kind of coupe that has a sporty image. The styling of the Mustang has a long hood, short deck, front-engine, rear-wheel drive, and is available in either the 2-door hardtop, 2-door fastback, or 2-door convertible.

After the 1964 1/2 model year, the 1965 model underwent various changes. These cars were known as "late 65s", and contained a 3.3-liter engine with 120 horsepower. The 4.7-liter engine with a two-barrel carburetor as the base V8 was also utilized in the newer models.

The standard features of the interior of the Mustang included adjustable driver and passenger seats, an AM radio, and a floor-mounted shifter. The decorative aspects included integral armrests, woodgrain accents, and a round gauge cluster that would replace the previously used Falcon instrumentation.

The 1965 Mustang also featured sun visors, remote mirrors, a floor console, and a bench seat for more passenger room. The company then added an air-conditioning unit under the dash, and changed the cloth insert seat option available in the early '65 models.

With such an illustrious acting career (and saving lives at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as Derek Shepherd), he made plenty of money to save up to spend on vintage and luxury cars for his collection.

He loved spending money on custom Mustang builds that he could drive around in style for a few years. Regarding his '65 Stang, he spent over $300,000 into this build, commissioning the restomod from Panoz Custom Sports in Georgia, a manufacturer of luxury hand-crafted, custom, American sports cars.

His Vision

via Silodrome

He used a 1965 Ford Mustang fastback as the base, and then added a 2004 SN95 Cobra SVT as a donor in addition to the car. His vision was to take a classic design, like the Mustang, and preserve its integrity and classic features, and turn it into something practical that can be used in today's environment.

The Production

The build of his custom car took over 2 years, almost 4,000 hours of computer-assisted design, engineering, custom molds, finishing time, and assembly. The team decided to turn the supercharged 4.6-liter V8 into an engine that could produce a whopping 420 horsepower, instead of the base 390, and pulled its T56 Tremec six-speed manual transmission out.

Dempsey has driven almost 8,400 miles on his Mustang since Mustang Monthly posted it on the cover of their 2008 issue. If you want to read more about this car, you can visit Blacksmith Garage.

It was listed for sale on Bring-A-Trailer, starting $99,000 and sold at $166,000, on June 10, 2020. This MIGHT be because it is compared so much to other cars on the market, but we still recommend giving it a glance over at Bring-A-Trailer.
