Paul Walker, American actor, car aficionado, and philanthropist, died before his time in 2013 at the tender age of 40 when a car he was a passenger in crashed and caught fire. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of undercover cop and gearhead Brian O'Connor in The Fast and the Furious movie franchise. And like his character, he loved cars - driving them, racing them, talking about them, and collecting them. Indeed, over the years he amassed quite an assortment of Japanese special editions, one-offs, American muscle, and limited run European racers.

The Paul Walker Collection

The Paul Walker Collection, as it is known, is now being put up for auction. Included in the collection are a quintet of BMW E36-series M3 Lightweights. All are in excellent original condition with low miles and the pedigree of being owned by Walker. The above example is a 1995 BMW M3 Lightweight Coupe from Lot # 1372.1.

The M3 Lightweights were built by BMW specifically for homologation in the IMSA Firehawk race series. Only about 120 were produced in the model run and they commanded a premium when new and on the resale market as well.

The Lightweights were made with racing in mind and as the name implies were stripped of all nonessential hardware. Sound deadening was ripped out and A/C and radios were similarly deleted. The doors were replaced with aluminum units, lightweight seats were installed, and a hopped up 240 hp 3.0 liter BMW S50B30 straight-6 with 5 speed manual and 3.23 limited slip differential were installed.
