Off-roading is so much fun, but only as much fun as the limits permit. So what are the limits? Well, they aren’t specifically laid out, however, we’d say an appropriate limit would be some seconds or meters just before an off-roading disaster… (good luck figuring that out in real-time driving situations.)

Today, there are a plethora of capable off-roading vehicles one could buy, but not possessing one of these hasn’t stopped motorists from going off-road, anyway. Therefore, off-roading vehicle or not, making vehicles do more than they can handle is dicey. These motorists went off-roading, but were found in rather precarious situations.

Driving to the beach with his family to get some barbecue was quite easy for this Russian Bentley owner. However, while driving out, he realized he’s made a rookie mistake; his $162,000 Bentley got stuck in the sand. This happened at a beach in Marazion, near Penzance, Cornwall and all efforts by bystanders to save the young man from the embarrassment failed.

Luckily, after several hours in the sand, help came from a local farmer who pulled the Bentley out with his tractor.

There’s arguably nothing more soul-wrenching than watching this poor Subaru get rescued from a rocky forest. The backstory is that the owner of this Subaru Impreza wanted to impress the automotive world by demonstrating to them that his poor little sedan could compete with the specially-built World Rally Championship race cars.

Impressively, the car miraculously pulled through a total distance of twelve miles before coming to a halt after its oil pan busted from a rock impact, which then led to the painful rescue.

Jeep’s tagline says you could “Go Anywhere…” and this owner took it literally. From reports, this Jeep sat on the West Ridge trail near Loma Linda, in San Bernardino County, California. Getting to the top of the trail was surprisingly easy for the Jeep considering this particular stretch is strictly used by mountain bikers and hikers due to how narrow it is.

On realizing how perilous the situation had become, the owner jumped ship. A group from the SoCal Jeep club later came to his rescue with special equipment like straps, winches, and shackles.

How this Volkswagen got so deep into the English Channel remains a mystery, but the whole situation could have been worse if help hadn’t come as early as it did. It all happened after a bunch of fun-seekers drove their Volkswagen SUV to the beach and got stuck right inside the waters off Dymchurch beach.

Being an SUV, they must have thought there wasn’t anything the car couldn’t do – now they know better. However, help came in the nick of time from South East Off-Road Recovery, using two Land Rovers.

While cruising off-road in a ‘90s Cherokee, the two guys in the SUV pictured above decided it was okay to continue on a degraded trail… it wasn’t. They ended up in a sinkhole. It happened somewhere in Salina Canyon, Utah, with the two guys driving over a thinly covered road filled with ruts and crevasses – which were only discovered during the rescue mission – underneath it.

When the road caved in, it left the vehicle tilted 45 degrees into the sinkhole. However, the SUV was later rescued by Matt’s Off-Road Recovery team.

Outside designated trails, off-roading is illegal in Iceland, a small and sparsely populated Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean. As a rule, the country banned off-roading as it believes such activity could extensively damage its topsoil while the locals will then be burdened with the cost and labor of fixing the damage.

This law didn’t stop influencer and photographer, Alexander Tikmhomirov from intentionally driving off-road till his car got stuck in sands. Northeast Iceland police got him fined.

On good days, this is a rescue truck, however, on this occasion, the truck needed to be rescued. This is Matt's Off-Road Recovery rescue truck. A “superhero” Cherokee XJ that has come to the aid of several stranded off-roaders.

However, on this day, after helping to free up a Subaru in the Sand Hollow and also pulling out a Volvo while at it, the XJ got stranded on its way out. Don’t fret, Matt and his team have got this covered.

2 Smart Fortwo

The Smart Fortwo is strictly a city car, and the manufacturer couldn’t stress that point enough, hence, they drove the car off-road in a humorous ad highlighting its weakness and strength, while at the same time taking a dig at SUVs. Expectedly, the car failed miserably as it tried to tackle rocks, steep inclines, and river crossing.

The ad agency, BBDO Germany, won the Gold Lion award for Film Craft at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for their effort.

1 Police Van

via TrinidadExpress

Using a police van to pick up injured officers at the beach is just another way of getting stranded with the injured men, but this police officer came to that realization a little too late. It happened on the Galfa beach in Cedros, Trinidad, after a constable attached to the Cedros police station had gone to rescue two of his colleagues who came under attack at the beach.

On their way out, the car sank, with all attempts to pull it proving abortive. A tow truck eventually pulled out the SUV the next day.
