So, it’s safe to say, that the Pininfarina Battista drives like a bat out of hell, or should we say, a bat-tista out of hell as it continues to cement its standing as the world’s quickest production car. With a 0-to-60 mph sprint of under two seconds, the Pininfarina Battista has now also set two new world records for the fastest quarter-mile and half-mile for a production car.

Pininfarina SpA, as a brand, carries the legacy of being a coach builder so founded by Battista Pininfarina in 1930. A partnership with Ferrari beginning in 1951 catapulted the company into fame, and they came to design many of the world’s most beautiful cars, along with trains, trams, boats, planes, and a lot more.

In 2015, Mahindra & Mahindra, an Indian multinational conglomerate acquired 76% of Pininfarina SpA and launched Automobili Pininfarina GmbH with headquarters in Munich, Germany. They soon announced the launch of the Pininfarina Battista, the first vehicle from the brand, as a luxury electric hypercar. The name is an ode to the founder, and its speed is the legacy of the man who started it all.

According to Pininfarina, the Battista aims to be the world’s most powerful car ever. While the company is HQ’d in Munich, Germany, the Battista is hand-built in Battista Atelier in Cambiano, Italy, at a 1,250 man-hour cost. Only 150 examples of this car will be up for sale, at a massive price tag of $2.25 million.

Pininfarina claims that the Battista is faster than a current Formula 1 race car given its 0-to-62 mph sub-two-second sprint. Pininfarina’s Battista eschews ICE technology and is an EV with a 120 kWh battery with four electric motors, one at each wheel. Altogether, Pininfarina Battista promises 1,900 horsepower and a little over 1,725 lb-ft of torque on tap. This Hyper GT also promises a range of 300 miles on a single, full charge, as long as you don’t decide to test it out on track, given that it’s one fast car.

In 2022, the Battista achieved a series of performance world records at its test base in Nardò, Italy. It achieved a sprint of 0-to-60 mph in 1.79 seconds, while 0-to-120 mph happened in a very zippy 4.49 seconds. To add another feather to its cap, it also braked 62-0 mph in 102 feet.

Pininfarina Battista Beat Out The Rimac Nevera Using Its Drivetrain!

There are only two production cars in the world that broke the 9.0-second barrier when it comes to a quarter-mile run. All it took to become the world’s quickest production car, at least for a ¼-mile run, was a difference of 0.03 seconds. The previous record holder for the world’s fast quarter-mile zip was the Rimac Nevera with a time of 8.58 seconds. Now, using the same motors and battery, the Pininfarina Battista beat the Rimac Nevera at its own game, running the quarter-mile in a dizzying 8.55 seconds.

This Hyper EV also set a new half-mile world record at 13.38 seconds, with the top speed logged in at 222.5 mph.

Paolo Dellachà, Automobili Pininfarina's new CEO is understandably impressed as he said, “These speed records – and independent tests – have validated our ambition to create a new generation of hyper and luxury car leading with Battista, whereby electric power delivers performance that is simply unachievable in the world of ICE [internal combustion engine] powertrains."

Co-incidentally, the world records broken by the Pininfarina Battista happened on Indian soil, given that it’s a 100% Mahindra Group investment.

With a limited run of just 150 units, the Pininfarina Battista is an expensive dream given its starting price of $2.25 million. Of course, with bespoke options, the price can go up to $3.0 million. And it’s not just the impressive powertrain that makes it such a dear car to own but the fact that it comes with a computer-controlled suspension and active aero that helps to adjust the rear wing to balance drag and downforce. It can also double up as an air brake. It also bears a unique, sophisticated torque vectoring system to send power to all four wheels.

For the record-breaking run, the Pininfarina Battista wore Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires on all four corners. These are tires Pininfarina dresses the Battista in for all customers too. No other mechanical tweaks happened to the hypercar for the record runs as well, so this record-breaking car is what you get if you have the $2.25 million to cough up for it.

While Pininfarina calls Battista the world’s most beautiful car as well, most would agree, it’s one of the better-looking EVs given its aero-body is likely to help its journey to faster speeds. We can’t wait to see what the Battista does next, or what Pininfarina cooks up in the future.
