The police are here to protect and serve the population. Some troublemakers get away with having superior automobiles at their disposal; to counter this, police departments have added high-performance cars to their line-up of vehicles. Granted, some of the police owned supercars are simply there for publicity reasons but some are definitely used in the line of duty. A lot of high-speed chases along highways have prompted the use of performance vehicles to keep up with escaping perpetrators. These rather expensive pieces of equipment range from Lamborghinis to Porsches and pack quite the punch when it comes to doing some spirited driving. Driving these types of cars almost on a daily basis will truly be a dream job for some lucky police officers.

Not all places are fortunate enough to afford such expensive luxuries and are forced to face crime in humble or common vehicles. There’s nothing wrong with these cars and they are definitely capable of hauling police officers and other cargo but they really don’t offer much in terms of pursuing vehicles on the run. One can argue that the police are fine with these mundane cars and that escaping convicts can be found later on and that even engaging in hot pursuits endangers the lives the public unfortunate enough to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Though we agree on the endangering the public bit, evading arrest will put even more lives in danger as most of these people who run away from the cops put the welfare of the public at risk even more.

18 Brabus G63 AMG

Via ForceGT

G-wagons have been known to emanate a distinct emotion for people within its vicinity. The fact that the SUV just screams extravagance and wealth is imposing enough already. AMG builds exceptionally outrageous automobiles and the G63 AMG is by no means different. Any crook who decides to take their chances on rough terrain in hopes that the supercar cruisers can’t handle themselves are in for a surprise as the blinking lights in their rear view mirrors will be that of a full-fledged performance off-roader. With the 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds only, the G63 is no slouch on the pavement either.

17 Nissan GT-R

via autoevolution

Dubbed as one of the best bang for buck supercars in the market today, the GT-R can undeniably hold its own against any car it would be finding itself chasing. May it be on the highway or winding back roads, the GT-R has an answer for everything as its all-wheel drive system is considered to be world class by anybody’s standards.

It might not be the most expensive law enforcement vehicle out there but it definitely is one of the coolest.

An excellent example of a police controlled Nissan GT-R is a blacked out R35 serving on US soil for an undisclosed police department as it is still being used for undercover purposes.

16 Porsche Carrera 911

Via AutoEvolution

Porsches are astounding machines to experience driving, they are adored by many all around the globe due to the incredible handling and its tendency to swing the tail out in the middle of a corner. The Austrian Police Force as a Carrera 911 in their list of police interceptors and we do hope they use the car to its full potential. Even though this certain 911 will never see heart-pumping action in the field, it still is nice to think that a representative of the law can catch someone evading arrest in something like a supercar as well.

15 Lotus Evora S

Via AutoEvolution

Lotus blatantly supports its country’s police force as the company has donated a number of Evoras to local towns to support educating the youth. Their aim is actually to spread the message that drunk driving, speeding, stubbornness in wearing seatbelts, and distracted driving are despicable acts that endanger the lives not only the drivers, but everyone on the road as well. It’s a simple fact that the younger generation of drivers is more interested in these fast and expensive automobiles. Teaching them in boring mundane vehicles doesn’t quite hit the message home and learning with such memorable cars will definitely make a bigger impact on the kids.

14 Aston Martin One-77

Via Pinterest

Dubai is back at it again with the Aston Martin One-77, after acquiring a Lamborghini Aventador, a G63 AMG, and a few Ferraris; they still went ahead and got one of the rarest Aston Martins anybody can get a hold of.

Not even avid collectors have the privilege to get a chance to buy one of these magnificent machines.

In all honesty, the green on white suits the car well even with the vehicular beacons. It certainly doesn’t need quite an announcement for its arrival as the car exudes a distinct presence already on its own.

13 Bugatti Veyron

via witkey

Dubai has been blessed over the last few decades with prosperity, bringing into the country ridiculous amounts of money. These guys are not to shy away from showing their extreme wealth, even their police force has joined in the fun. A Bugatti Veyron is one of many supercars in their long list of expensive vehicles at their hands. Though we may never see a Veyron ripping the streets to catch a couple of criminals (the Arabs are extravagant- not stupid), it’s more of a display of Dubai’s wealth. The thought of a Bugatti, of all things, running down crooks is admittedly an interesting concept.

12 Ferrari 458 Spider

Via Motor1.com

The Prancing Horse is no stranger to speed and attention which is exactly why this 458 Spider is now used by the Italian Polizia Locale. It was formerly owned and driven by a member of the mafia.

Instead of chasing crooks and pursuing convicts, it’s usually utilized to educate kids in the local communities that crime doesn’t pay.

Sporting sirens, a police radio, a green police livery, and a few more minimal modifications in the cabin, it obviously still can’t transport caught criminals. There may be a time when a Ferrari has to go after another vehicle but we doubt that’ll happen anytime soon.

11 Mercedes-Benz Brabus Rocket

Via AutomobileReviews.com

A 6.3-liter V12 engine in a cop car is rather over the top for most people but apparently, not for the Germans. We can’t imagine who would be riding at the back seat of this ultra-luxurious saloon, maybe a VVIP who has committed a crime or maybe a public official who was indicted. Whoever it is though, we’re quite certain that person will be taking a very quiet and posh ride all the way to prison. Chasing a vehicle won’t be a problem as well because of that monster engine just waiting to be unleashed at the slightest step of the gas pedal.

10 Lamborghini Aventador

Via Youtube

Once again, Dubai graces this list now in the form of a Lamborghini Aventador. Even crazier than the Murcielago or the Huracan, it’s simply an amazing sight to see one of the best designed cars of all time serving a police force.

All of its edginess and aggressive styling matches what a police cruiser should give-off at first sight.

Some people would even go far as to say they would work for the Dubai police just to have a chance at driving this majestic beast. The car does carry quite a hefty price tag but knowing Dubai and its spending habits, the cost doesn’t strike them as a problem.

9 Tata Nano

via guide auto

Tata has been commissioned by the Indian government to produce little vehicles as more of a first responder to emergencies. Given the Nano’s extremely compact design, the car zips through the crowded streets of Mumbai with ease.

The vehicle is also equipped with basic law enforcement tools such as a first aid kit and a police radio.

Though the Nano is by no means meant for high speed pursuits, it offers something along the lines of quick and easy travels in congested areas of the overpopulated country. One thing is for sure though; the Nano is a welcome addition to law enforcement in India.

8 Ford Fiesta

via wikimedia commons

This is an even smaller vehicle than the Vios though not as small as the Nano. The Fiesta is incredibly lightweight and Ford even offers a high performance variant called the Fiesta ST which some people even use in rally stages. This might not be the cheapest of the bunch but it’s frankly a decent car to patrol the streets in. Repairs and maintenance won’t be too much of a problem either since there’s an abundance of parts for this cheap little vehicle. One thing cool about it is the Fiesta can handle itself well when the need for chasing another vehicle arises.

7 Hyundai i30

via flickr

As we all may very well know, Hyundai is in fact a Korean car maker, a very good car maker we might add. The i30 is the smallest vehicle in Hyundai’s fleet of automobiles.

Its pros can be felt well in a situation where a police vehicle must negotiate its way through a crowded street or an area where only minuscule cars can manage.

This tiny Hyundai also looks modern, especially the newer models, a lot handsome than some of the examples on this list. Some features can be added to make the i30 a more comfortable ride for the law enforcement officers.

6 Nissan Altima

Via Pinterest

Many police departments would rather avoid getting into hot pursuits as it endangers lives and risks more than it really should. However, the relatively cheap Nissan Altima can manage chasing around any normal, unmodified vehicle especially with a competent driver at the wheel. This might not be as big as the Crown Vics we’re all akin to seeing in western films but the rest of the world seriously doesn’t need all that space when it comes to their automobiles. The amount of engineering invested by Nissan in their sedans is respectable in relation to the comparative price tag on the Altima.

5 Mazda Bongo

via flickr

The boys in blue will also need a reliable utility vehicle to transport people and cargo; one of the cheapest vehicles that can fulfill that task is the Mazda Bongo. We can find numerous examples fitted with a cargo bed for law enforcement officers to carry around stuff, some are even fitted with a mini cage that can fit two to three detained persons but the most common variant of the Bongo is probably the one that has a long double sided bench instead of a cargo bed to move around people. There are most likely similar vehicles like this one but none are as hilarious and as alterable as the Bongo.

4 Fiat Punto

Via Wikimedia Commons

Fiat is quite popular in Europe mostly since other continents have differing preferences and widely varying tastes in their automobiles. It’s no surprise that the Fiat Punto is the choice of various European countries for their small, compact police cars.

Hatchbacks have been increasingly trendy in the past few years and that is because size doesn’t always matter especially when cost is a factor since hatchbacks are generally priced lower.

Similar to the underpowered tiny vehicles in this list, the Punto isn’t meant for chasing cars along the highway at high speeds, rather they are more effective in confined pathways.

3 Vauxhall Omega

via flickriver

A cheap station wagon would have to be on this list as to be nondiscriminatory to this arguably ugly segment in the car market. For police work however, station wagons can be of so much use to law enforcement officers as the extra space they have can sometimes be priceless commodities. Being manufactured by German manufacturer, Opel, the Omega isn’t a cheap car per se but no other bang for buck reliable station wagon is available unless you’re thinking about the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon but then that would no longer be cheap, quite far from cheap actually.

2 Zastava Skala

Via Wikimedia Commons

With the Zastava Skala, we now enter lemon territory as these cars are known far and wide due to their tendency to break constantly. Several problems have riddled the notorious lemon such as reliability issues and poor design from the get-go.

The Yugo is quite literally what would happen if our communist friends were to have a try at building automobiles.

With that said, you can be definitely sure that the Yugo is incredibly cheap and easy to buy. Countless examples of this lemon are still seen across Eastern Europe as police cars.

1 Tata Xenon

via flickr

What’s stopping the pursuit of criminals from extending into off-road conditions? The Tata Xenon is capable in different terrains with a 4X4 system that can manage in different situations away from the pavement.

This India-made pickup truck is one of the cheapest 4-wheel drive vehicles money can buy anywhere in the world.

Aside from chasing soon-to-be detainees across the woods and rock covered paths, a 4X4 pickup truck can offer law enforcement officers tons of utility with its cargo bed. The Xenon is a dual cab as well which means that more people can fit inside the cabin, protected from the elements and the rays of the sun.
