In a furthering sign of the times, TEN Publishing will be bringing an end to print editions of 19 out of their 21 publications including Automobile Magazine.

The move comes two years after the publisher was folded into the MotorTrend Group with Discovery Inc. as the major shareholder. Only three magazines will continue to be print and digital, MotorTrend, Hot Rod, and Four Wheeler.

3 Demand

In a release to Folio, the MotorTrend Group explained their decision as one of demand. In the memo they stated, “Tens of millions of fans visit MotorTrend’s digital properties every month, with the vast majority of our consumption on mobile, and 3 out of every 4 of our visitors favoring digital content over print.”

2 The Future is Digital

The MotorTrend Group was quick to point out that the titles won't be going away entirely. Digital editions of the shuttered publications will continue. Subscribers to the closed magazines will be offered subscriptions to either the remaining three magazines or the MotorTrend Network.

1 Growing Trend

The announcement follows the news of Autoweek ending its print editions and Car and Driver doing its own restructuring that found them laying off much of its staff. Automobile had recently gone through a redesign as a 'lifestyle' magazine for affluent men that faced some criticism.
