Specifically, it went up by as much as 20.1 percent, as more and more car buyers shifted their preference from traditional passenger cars to SUVs and pickup trucks.

Indeed, today is a very good time for carmakers that are offering SUVs. And Ford's very own head of US Marketing Mark LaNeve has told Reuters, "The overall health of the consumer is very strong right now, which provides a solid base for our industry."

Even better, it seems that demand isn't slowing down anytime soon. In fact, according to a press release by Markets and Markets, it is predicted that the global SUV market will reach as much as 30.2 million units by the year 2020. Meanwhile, automotive market intelligence company LMC Automotive has predicted that SUVs can occupy as much as 50 percent of all car sales in the U.S. by 2020. In addition, it is also believed that SUVs will end up occupying as much as 40 percent of the global car market by the year 2025.

Indeed, it looks like SUVs are here to stay. It’s no wonder that more and more people are playing with the idea of developing more SUVs in the near future.
