The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is actually way faster than the German carmaker ever let on.

We already know that the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is a very fast car. With 690 horsepower from its 3.8-L twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder engine and 553 lb-ft of torque, the car is up there with the McLaren 720S and Lamborghini Aventador as a truly powerful supercar. In fact, the GT2 RS was previously the fastest production car around the Nurburgring before the Aventador SVJ came along.

Porsche says that the GT2 RS can launch from zero to sixty in 2.7 seconds and tops out at around 210 mph. We’re wondering where those numbers are from because according to Johnny Bohmer, those numbers are way off.

Once again, Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds has posted a video on their YouTube page that proves the reported numbers from a major carmaker aren’t always to be trusted. Sometimes manufacturers test their vehicles in conditions that aren’t quite as ideal as West Palm Beach, Florida in the months in March and April, which is a place that is gaining a reputation for unleashing a car’s true potential.

At launch, we see the Porsche is very much a no-drama sort of car. In fact, the only drama seems to be a slight mis-shift somewhere in the middle as it accelerates smoothly to 200 mph. Once there it starts to struggle, but nowhere near as much as you’d expect a car that’s only 10 miles away from its reported top speed.

The GT2 RS easily blows past 210 mph and just keeps climbing. At 219.656 mph, the driver finally lets off, but it seems like 220 mph was an easily possible number.

We’re really hoping to see a few more supercars take the Johnny Bohmer challenge so we can bust a few more supercars that are low-balling their numbers. A Lamborghini SVJ next? It’d be appropriate.
