Who doesn’t like a Porsche 944? There is something seriously cool about classic Porsches from the 1980s and 1990s, with the pop up headlights, and clean and simple styling. That styling has remained classic and timeless, but what if we got a modern version? Our friend Oscar V on Instagram has done a fantastic job of rendering a modern Porsche 944, out of the shape of a modern Porsche 911.

A Far Cry From Original 944

Oscar has produced some fantastic renderings before, and this one is no exception. The car though does look quite different from the original 944. The side profile is similar enough. Sleek likes that are uncluttered about from an aerodynamic slot. But the rear end is drastically different. It gives the car a much bigger look, and it has the Porsche name across the rear of it.

If you don’t know anything about the Porsche 944, here’s a bit of a potted history. It was manufactured between 1982 and 1991, and it was a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive mid-level coupe and based on Porsche’s 924 platforms. It wasn’t just available as a coupe either. The 944 also came as a cabriolet, and in terms of engine choice they came with either a turbo or naturally aspirated engine, so there were plenty of choices to come from. The car came with either a 3-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission, and it was eventually succeeded by the Porsche 968.

Engine Location

Engine location might be an issue Oscar says, so he has compensated by giving the car more hood space. The modern 944 certainly looks a lot longer than the original model. Larger wheels are featured as is a dual exhaust setup, the back of the car very much oozing 2020 as opposed to 1982. Oscar has posted a comparison image with the 911 that he used as the base, and that clearly shows where he has taken his inspiration.
