Porsche has some kind of upcoming classic car called “Project Gold”. We’ll explain as best we can.

Porsche as a brand is synonymous with classic cars. For every new 911 they make, it seems like they design a dozen versions that harken back to some bygone era where Porsche’s had big circular headlights and had the same sloping roof as the Volkswagen Beetle.

Come to think of it, even the modern Porsches still have that.

Anyway, the point is that Porsche never forgets its heritage (except the parts with Hitler in them), so it should come as no surprise that Porsche has begun teasing us with a video series about something called “Project Gold” they started posting on YouTube starting last July.

All we know is what is presented to us in these videos. The first one, called “The Vision”, shows us a nice man in glasses smiling at the paint-removed shell of a 993-era Porsche covered in a tarp. He then removes that tarp and starts madly sketching more 993-era Porsches. So we can probably safely assume that whatever Project Gold is it will contain a 993 Porsche.

Next, we have “The Refinement”, where yet another man wearing glasses can be seen painting the wheel of the 993 and then laser etching it to make it even prettier than before. The video ends with the Porsche symbol being neatly dropped in the center.

For “The Craftsmanship” we have our first non-glasses wearing man casually stitching together some leather seats with gold thread. The seat has the word “Turbo” embroidered at the top, so we can now assume this will be a 993 Porsche Turbo. Probably a 911.

Finally, in “The Coating”, we see the 993 body from “The Vision” get doused in chemical primers before it gets a new basecoat from whatever facility Project Gold is being performed in.

The next video, Porsche says, will be on August 17th. We’re pretty sure it’s going to be some remade-by-hand 993 Porsche 911 Turbo, but you never know. Maybe Porsche will put wings on it or something?
