While it may feel like the supercar and sports car world is at a stand-still, Porsche is driving ahead full speed with all new features and improvements for the 718 Cayman and Boxster for the 2021 model year. For those who bought a base model 2020 718, the updates and upgrades might get their feathers in a ruffle. Nevertheless, it's a treat for new owners that will reap benefits of a company that continues to push the limits. Let's see what Porsche has in store for us with the new Cayman and Boxster.

New Standards

With 2021 less than 6 months away Porsche has just released a detailed report of what goodies the new Cayman and Boxster are getting. To begin with, the standard versions are getting more tech than ever before. In addition, the cars will have options that could make them faster than ever too. And what's more, these additions are more than just skin deep effecting virtually every element of the car.

Feature Rich Performers

The newest Caymans and Boxsters will be the first-ever that can be optioned with the super-fast seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission that Porsche has been rightly lauded for. That alone is a major step forward for a car that has been noted for having a manual transmission with exceptionally long gears. The PDK is probably the best dual-clutch transmission in the business as it's robust and lightning quick.

The comfort level has been raised too as every single 718 will have rain-sensing technology, Apple CarPlay, auto-dimming mirrors, as well as heated seats and automatic two-zone climate control for the new model year. Outside the car, every 718 will get Bi-Xenon headlamps with the Porsche Dynamic Light System that has only been an additional extra in years past. The Cayman will start at $59,000 and the Boxster at $62,000.

That's not cheap among sports cars but perhaps an excellent proposition considering the pedigree. For those looking for something a bit higher up the totem pole, the GTS variants of both cars are now available with a 4.0-liter engine that makes 394 horsepower and leaps to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. Track times are only going to plummet with such a potent powerhouse from the stable in Stuttgart.

Making Their Mark

At the end of the day, the Boxster and Cayman are amazing sports cars. The Cayman itself might even be better in GT4 form than the best 911. Now with these new features and a fairly low price tag considering the quality and speed these cars are capable of, the twins are a better value than they already were. There's a reason that Porsche continues to score high marks when it comes to resale value, speed, and reliability. They continue to work hard even when they've already set the bar quite high.
