Porsche Reveals Specs And Price Of Special Edition 911 Speedster

A hit at the New York International Auto Show, the special edition of the 2019 Porsche Speedster has been officially tagged. For UK residents, the sports car will be listed at approximately £212,000/$277,000, though if you want to add the Heritage design pack, it will cost you an additional £15,000/$19,500. The special edition Speedster is available as of today.

According to Porsche, the Speedster is based on the 911R and the GT3, while the rear spoiler and apron is derived from the limited GT3 Touring. The new car will go from 0-62mph in four seconds and have a top speed of 192mph. Unveiled in production-spec at this year’s New York auto show, the Speedster, which will be limited to just 1948 examples, is inspired internally by the 991.2 GT3 and GT3RS, which feature a 4.0-litre flat-six powerplant.

In addition to the Speedster, Porsche has also released a 911 Speedster Chronograph created by Porsche Design exclusively for Speedster owners. It has been designed to resemble the new special edition and includes a rotor fashioned after the Speedster's center lock wheel. The car was developed at Porsche Motorsport in Weissach in cooperation with Style Porsche and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur.

The 911 Speedster Concept, which celebrates 70 years of Porsche sports cars, is “a road-ready study of an open-top and particularly exciting sports car,” according to the Stuttgart automaker. The first sports model, the Porsche 356, made its debut in 1948 and spawned an entire generation of rear-engine sports cars, which include the current 991.2 generation.

The body components as well as the technology of the special edition 911 Speedster Concept feature shortened window frames with lowered cowl top panels and smaller side windows. It also includes a carbon-fiber rear bonnet with a double-bubble cover behind the seats and a lightweight Tonneau cover, equipped with Tenax buttons, instead of a convertible soft top.

The special edition Speedster includes an exhaust system provided by the GT development department that includes titanium tailpipes and drivetrain, as well as a manually operated six-speed gearbox. The sports car is powered by a naturally-aspirated flat-six engine that delivers more than 500 hp and reaches engine speeds of up to 9,000 rpm.
