The EV market is starting to heat up in a major way. Mainstream and luxury automakers alike are all racing to get their best work in the form of an electric vehicle out to the masses. Porsche is just one example of these. The only thing is that they have done it extremely well with the Taycan. There was a lot of anticipation for this EV as it was previewed by the Porsche Mission E concept a couple of years before the Taycan’s debut.

While the Taycan has been with us for a couple of years, it is still able to impress on a wide scale. This is with all the new competition that has been continuously coming out of the woodworks for a good deal of time now. Electric vehicles still aren’t necessarily cheap which is especially true when it comes with a Porsche badge up front. When you are paying a large sum of money for such a car, you want it to check a lot of boxes. Thankfully, you get what you pay for in an EV like the Taycan.

Apparently, Porsche doesn’t do anything until they can get it right. Here is why the Taycan justifies its price tag.

Porsche has always ensured that they are a hallmark in the performance category. Electric vehicles can pose more of an issue given their added weight and different driving dynamics. But Porsche will only settle for the finest. The Taycan is one of the few EVs that still gives you the performance car spirit. Enthusiasts are happy to report that the Taycan can still do the usual performance tricks like drifting. In comparison, the Tesla Model S Plaid still takes the crown for fastest acceleration. However, Tesla does not have the whole performance pedigree that Porsche does. The Taycan can still impress in a straight line and around a corner. The top-of-the-line Taycan Turbo S can manage to reach 60 miles per hour in only 2.6 seconds which is not far off from the best in the segment like the Tesla.

In addition to overall performance, Porsche offers it in many flavors. These iterations are not only performance worthy as well, but also very attractive in all forms. Accompanying the regular Taycan sedan are both the Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo versions. You would be hard-pressed to see a lot of major differences between the two, but the Sport Turismo takes more of a wagon style while the Cross Turismo is closer to a quasi-crossover. Both sedan alternatives are very handsome, and we like to see that Porsche had the audacity to go with styles that you do not see often in the automotive market as a whole.

What We Hope To See Improved In The Taycan

Though the Porsche Taycan does a lot of things right, there are always areas that it can do slightly better in. In the case of this Porsche, we mainly see compromises in the practicality side of things. The Taycan has one of the more lackluster ranges for an EV of this caliber. On the Turbo S Model, you get around 203 miles. This is a more permissible amount of range for something like a cheap Chevrolet Bolt or Nissan Leaf, but it seems that Porsche would try to match the range of its direct competitors more. Once again, comparing it to the Tesla Model S, it bests the Taycan’s range by offering almost doubling it at 396 miles. Granted, 200 miles will get the job done in most cases, but it is also nice to know that you have the option to go further when you’re spending around $100,000 or more for your car.

We would love to also see the Taycan take on a sportier appearance on some of its trims. There is something to be said about its restrained looks and how many appreciate its slight sleeper persona. But Porsche knows how to give their cars just amount of sporty flair that turns heads. The 911 GT3 is just one example of where they have executed this perfectly. Heck, if Hyundai can do it with the RN22e concept, Porsche can surely figure it out with the Taycan.

Porsche has gotten on the right path with the Taycan. They brought out an EV that feels truly special. Not many electric vehicles feel as well-rounded in driving rather than just going quick in a straight line. We’d call it quite the success that the Taycan has the spirit of a Porsche in a battery powered vehicle. For the price of the Taycan, there are a lot of EVs out there that you could buy. But we find it difficult to find one so spirited as the Taycan.
