Earlier in 2021, Emelia Hartford stole the headlines with her powerful C8 Chevrolet Corvette that became not only the world's most powerful but the world's fastest too. However, the guys at FuelTech USA have hit back as they now have quite possibly the world's most powerful Corvette. Not content with that, they wanted to see how fast they could get the car to go down the 1/4 mile and to get it if possible into the 9-second range on the drag strip in this video on their YouTube channel.

Over 1,000 Hp Is Tough To Get Onto The Tarmac

The C8 has 1,075 whp and getting that translated to on-track performance is often pretty tricky, trying to get things such as the delivery of that power and the gear shifting correct. But the guys at FuelTech with founder Anderson Dick at the wheel know what they are doing. The video shows the car going through a few runs, the first of which allows us to hear the trackside commentator say the car did a 9.97 second run down the 1/4 mile. For a first attempt that is very fast.

A Few Tweaks Got More Speed Out Of The C8

Of course, the FuelTech team was not going to leave it at that first effort. With a bit more refinement and a few tweaks, the next run shown in the film saw the car get down to a 9.72 second run with a top speed of 145 mph. The team was able to get a better top speed out of the car however once darkness fell. A run at night saw the car clock an equally impressive 9.74-second run but get its top speed up slightly to 146 mph, a highly impressive feat.

That accomplishment meant that their C8 is now currently second on the list of all-time quickest C8 Corvettes, highly impressive given that these are the car's first runs in anger. Anderson says at the end of the video that he was incredibly happy with how the weekend at the drag track went, although there were a few issues such as a crack on the intake manifold that cost the car 5 psi, slowing it down on its final run. But even so, the team did a fantastic job with the car.
